But not impossible. The headliner first party titles (3D World, Smash) seem to clock in at a little over 3 mil (MK8 being the exception with over 4 mil). It should be able to do 3.5 mil without question, with a life time of 4. (Optimistically I think it could do 4 mil easily 4.5 LT given the growth that will still come throughout this year and people who are specifically waiting for LoZ to come out to get a Wii U.)

Which is not enough, Mario/SSB always sell much more than Zelda, so if they sell 4M, Zelda will sell around 2M

Zelda WW HD is currently around 1.5m, completely new Zelda game that is very hyped being biggest, open world and ultimate Zelda game, will be 3m+.

Nintendo official numbers till 31. march:

-5.11mil: Mario Kart 8

-4.10mil: Super Mario 3D World

-4.81mil: New Super Mario Bros U

-4.68mil: Nintendo Land

-3.65mil: Super Smash Bros for WiiU

-2.25mil: New Super Luigi U

-1.55mil: Wii Party U

-1.52mil: Zelda WW HD

Okay, a remake only sold 1.5 mil as a launch title. You can use that, but I don't think it's very indicative to what a new LoZ with 10+ million fan base will pull. And remember, it pulled that much with less than 3 million install base if I'm not mistaken. It's actually pretty impressive.

Could reach taht yes, if exclusive, if not it will be closer to 1,5M

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Ambition and Aonuma self-consumed with beating the previous zelda with the new zelda

This.

Aonuma was with the Zelda team when Shigeru Miyamoto was still running it. He had a great teacher. He was part of that older generation of Japanese developers from the 80's who were very ambitious towards their games. This ambition kept them ahead of everyone else for almost two decades. Then something happened. Attitudes changed. There are still ambitious individuals, like the ones who are having success with their Kickstarters. The companies themselves lost that ambition along the way and that's where we get modern day Sega, modern day Capcom, and modern day Konami. While Nintendo has MANY problems of their own, I'm just glad that Nintendo's management lets Aonuma make his games the way a Japanese developer or any developer should make their games: with passion, ambition, and with pride in a great product.

But it may be the Final Fantasy VII effect. He may try to be so freaking ambitious he destroys the IP to beat OOT.

He needn't worry about that, OOT was beaten a while ago, and the IP is healthy as a horse. A horse that doesn't run into trees.

People say that about FFVI and FFVII.

Thing is on Meta it will never be beaten, as far as sales it may never be beaten (it isn't now), as far as top 10 lists it is usually at the very top. People associate Link with being the Hero Of TIme (his title in OOT).

BTW: Did have a laugh at the horse joke. ;)

You can't worry about a difference of a couple of points on Metacritic; I doubt any developers do. Every 3D Zelda is in the 90s, an impressive feat.

My own theory: Ocarina is in the upper-middle of most Zelda fans' lists, but it is often at the top and very, very rarely at the bottom. Zelda fans can't agree on what goes above and below it, only that it's great. So if you get three fans together their lists may look something like this:

A:
1 - Majora's Mask
2 - Wind Waker
3 - Ocarina
4 - Link to the Past
...
10 - Twilight Princess
11 - Skyward Sword
12 - TLOZ (NES)

B:
1 - TLOZ (NES)
2 - Link to the Past
3 - Ocarina
...
9 - Majora's Mask
10 - Wind Waker
11 - Twilight Princess
12 - Skyward Sword

C:
1 - Twilight Princess
2 - Ocarina
3 - Skyward Sword
4 - Majora's Mask
5 - Link to the Past
...
11 - Wind Waker
12 - TLOZ (NES)

And so on. So they can't agree on what goes "first" or "last", but since they can all agree that Ocarina is among the best (and since non-diehard Zelda fans involved in the process all nod vigorously and say Uh huh yeah Ocarina da best), they put it on top. That's just how I perceive it to be, because the Zelda fandom is split a dozen different ways and have strong feelings about which games are the best and which are the worst. I rarely see Ocarina at the top of personal lists of the best Zelda games nowadays.

No idea. I hate it though... Much too long. I liked it when they released more consistently (Ocarina to Wind Waker).

I mean, they should reuse the same engine sometimes instead of building from the ground up each time.

You realize the gap between ocarina and wind waker is five years, right? :p lol

Anyways, I'm glad it takes five years. I like the games to actually be different from eachother. There is av reason the series has lasted 30 years
