I've accepted Wii U's sales situation

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I've accepted Wii U's sales situation

I accepted that a year ago , but I think Wii U will have a chance at getting really close to the Gamecube.

I have also accepted its sales. I will not however accept a game from a certain popular Nintendo franchise to not release on it. Unacceptable I believe is the term on that there part.

Lube Me Up

18 million is still a pretty optimistic prediction

It took Wii U, 2 years and 8 months, 3 holidays, two Mario games, MK, Smash, DK and "price cut" to reach 9.7M.
Even if Wii U had the exact same time ahead of it, it no longer has systems sellers besides Zelda.

Not to mention that soon enough Wii U will feel droughts with Nintendo focusing on developing for the next handheld and home console. Remember how great Wii's last two years were? Imagine what will happen when Nintendo is only able to release a few games per year...

Maybe even barely outsell it with killer sw and 149-199 price eventually

It's still too early to kill off the WiiU ..... Zelda U & Xenoblade Chronicle X still on the way.

I don't have as much trouble with Wii U's sales as I do with how many people buy Playstations.

If all of those sales were just for the games currently out then I could understand, but people also buy a console majorly because of the games that will come out in the future. Playstation has been consistent each generation, so people know what games to expect down the line.
Though personally I'd rather wait a while and get a better/cheaper version of PS4 when there are enough games out that I want to play.

You're right about the software.  Playstation owners are always guaranteed the biggest selection in console gaming.  I just haven't needed to get one since the 90s to play any of their games that I wanted.  I guess this is what it feels like to be in the minority.

The Wii U is now a *full year* worth of sales behind the GameCube. I don't think people realize that. It ain't catching the GameCube.

The gap between the two is widening too every month, not shrinking.

Only a fool would say the Wii U should be killed off.

That being said, at this point I think it is fair to lock it into 3rd place, despite all the great Nintendo games, it is getting little to nothing outside of Nintendo besides some solid to very good quality indie games. Unless Splatoon or Xenoblade Chronicles X or some other title turns out to be the genre defining title of this hardware generation and thus make the Wii U THE home system for fans of that genre in the way HALO: Combat Evolved did for the Xbox or Final Fantasy VII did for the PS1 or Monster Hunter Portable did for the PSP in Japan, then there is no way for the Wii U to catch up given it won't get any of the major 3rd party multiplatform games even when they are possible on the system.

I've already accepted that the Wii U is Nintendo's worst home console ever.

Of course that's not to say it doesn't have great exclusives. Smash Wii U and Splatoon are some of the best games I've ever played.
