Forums - Gaming Discussion - Stop Picking On VGC And Leave ioi Alone

Ive been reading alot of threads lately on here and on the interwebz things about witcher 3 downgrade, project cars WiiU about to get canceled and a ton of negative posts about vgc not updating numbers, what i havent been seeing is anybody defending vgc or ioi.  so what the numbers are a tiny bit out of date to fully understand why theres no cause for consern we have to look at the history of sales warz here on vgc any why there were important

back when the 7th gen started the xb360 released first by a full year and then the wii and ps3 released when the 360 released its future looked promising with its games rendering in HD and online MP was introduced.  the consensuses was that once the ps3 releases everyone is going to jump on board and that will be the console to lead the 7th gen, well once the ps3 released it had a slow start with its $600 price tag and the Wii was getting off to a great start.  back then the internet wasnt as big as it is today in terms of gaming sites and news sites like n4g kataku ect werent known to the casual gamer, news releases werent as big as its today and sales news wasnt priority.  if you wanted to know sales data on the consoles then you had to wait for npd and quarterly reports not a big deal  most didnt care since the PS brand dominated the last two gens, but since word got out that the ps3 was struggling badly and the wii of out of all consoles was selling the most back in 2007 many wanted to know the specifics on the situation and thats where VGC came in with there weekly WW sales data

it was like pre historic times with gladiators in a colosseum we would wait for the data to come out and argue about why the outcome was like it was and how it would be next week or next month, only a select few where fortunate to accurately predict the future and they were seen as gods.  this continued throughout the last gen and till 2011 where it was ultimately obvious why the Wii sold like it did and that the PS3 would fail to make the comeback many claimed it would.  here we are today waiting for the numbers so that we can argue and predict... but for what?

the future is known the ps4 is over 10M ahead of its closest competitor 3rd partys arent going to sell on the WiiU nor will the WiiU or Xb1 make any type of come back and many have caught on in the weekly threads that the numbers will eventually get adjusted therefor less arguing and predicting is seen

most of the members realize this thats why there is less activity on here and most are gone the forums have become like any other gaming forums discussions are now mainly game news related.  sales discussions are now discussed on a monthly bases when NPD releases or when quarterly data releases there is no need to beg for numbers anymore this is the new era and thats just how it is

Kinda off topic. This reaction means people do care about the site. Bret is probably busy but he needs to hire others to do the sales numbers with his methodology. A few months later it will be normal. Plus it seems the site (except sales section) is really popular.

I agree. I don't necessarily blame ioi for being preoccupied with other stuff, but what I do find fault in is that he's the only one that can update such things. It's a dysfunctional system, honestly.

That being said, I'm not nearly as hostile and angry about this as other users. It's just a bit disheartening to be nearly two months late in sales.

correct the site can survive w/o weekly numbers we still have quarterly reports npd japan amazon ect coming in i wouldnt be surprised if numbers dont come back its just evolution if he didnt hire others to help before when sales data was more important i cant see it happening now and you can only get so far behind that updating the past and current numbers will be a choir and not worth the effort

Not that great defense and still not the core of the site.

I remember the times when the weekly sales were still updated regularly (which isn't that long ago). The discussions were first and foremost about how wrong VGC is going to be. So if the accuracy is questioned to such a degree, it's puzzling that there's suddenly so much demand to get those numbers. Especially because Amazon has surfaced as a quite accurate prediction tool for US sales while the rest of the world is an easy PS4 victory. And nobody cares about handhelds anyway.

This  is soooo right. The animosity every time the weekly numbers dropped really suck the life out of those threads. How many times did Brett have to explain the numbers were estimates within a 10% margin of error and people still bitched? Remember when the bar for PS3 was not updated on the front page and everybody spent weeks whining about it? Suff like that would have me not wanting to do sales either. Maybe we'll learn to have more gratitude for numbers.

Until we finally get threads consistently and a few weeks later, people will bitch some more.

Oh so he stopped collecting the add money for this sales site?  I would say I'm not trying to be a dick, but it does irk me a bit.  We should be gratefull our traffic drives his add revenue ...perhaps I'm off base and he is only getting just enough cash to employ a few people and keep the servers running.

At the bolded, I can understand that.
