Forums - Sony Discussion - Gravity rush 2 ps4 exclusivity impact on vita fans

It doesn't make any sense at this point for any developer outside of Japan to sink resources into making Vita exclusives for retail release (MSRP $39.99 games)

Now I realize the thread is about a PS4 exclusive GR2 rather than a PS4/PSV Crossplay type of release, but the reality is that the market outside of Japan for the PSV is so small that developers need more than a "we have an obligation to those who backed a losing horse" motivation to justify such a release.

In Japan it's an easier sell since there is an actual market for PSV games, but the rest of the world has spoken and voted with their purchasing power; developers don't have to do any favors by potentially losing money on a product that the small PSV market won't even support.

If they made a GR2 port after the PS4 release, I'd consider that to be a big "we support the original audience for Gravity Rush even though it won't do anything to improve the franchise as a commercial product for the future."

I bought a Vita to play Gravity Rush. I played Gravity Rush on my Vita. Our contract is over.
There was never a promise that GR2 would ever release, much less be for the Vita when I got the game. I have no quarrel.

Sony knows Gravity Rush can be a great franchise so why let it die with dying handheld. Give it life on a system that's thriving.

If anything, fans of the series should thank Sony for saving it so they can have the chance to play more Gravity Rush games.

The vita still gets a lot of jrpgs and other third party games from japan. Its a great system to own

Agreed. I love Gravity Rush, but the sequel being on PSV or PS4 does not affect how I view that amazing hand held.

To be honest I haven't even turned my Vita on since I finished Tales of hearts 3-4 months ago so hearing this doesn't really bother me I'll just get it on the PS4.

why are you comparing it with the ps3 and ps4? You have to compare it to the competition, the 3DS. Despite the vita selling lower units its 5 to 1, the vita still gets more multiplats in recent months not avaible for the 3DS. You pretty much have to own both hanhelds now as the vita is now getting all the jrpgs and third party games like resident revelation 2.

Saying its only because youre hardcore jrpg fan is like saying: you only like the 3DS because because youre a hardcore nintendo fan. The games are there for the vita.

Sony made a great job getting games as much as possible without wasting any money, its remarkle for a system being only sold 10 milllion units so far.

here a comparison of 3DS vs PSvita game releases last 3 months

This argument makes no sense. Zero. Zip. Of course I'm going to compare it to the PS3/PS4, sincem most people who have one also have one of those consoles. When you can get the vast majority of the titles on a different system, with better graphics, why would you buy the handheld? The 3DS has a ton of exclusives and is completely seperate from the Wii U, while the Vita is like a PS3 mini, just with almost no first party exclusives. There's a major difference between the two.

So how bad of a slap in the face would it be to have gravity rush 2 be ps4 exclusive to vita fans? I remember gravity rush being one of the reasons I bought a ps vita and i would be absolutely furious of this came true if it werent for the fact that i already broke my vita (not on purpose ofc lol). I think this would be wrong of sony, although it would have its benefits otherwise, the vita deserves gravity rush 2.  So what do you vita/ps4 fans think of this possibilit?

I am one of those who only owns a Vita...

Sony has already given Vita ownly owners a double middle finger to the face...

If Gravity Rush 2 were to become a PS4 exclusive, it would be like giving Vita only owners a kage no bushin no jutsu x 1 million double middle finger to the face...

Then I would sell both my Vitas and join the N3ds.

I was also. I'm already planning on getting the a n3ds.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

How many Vita fans don't own or will not buy a PS4 anyway? I imagine the overlap must be pretty high there, so Vita owners will get to play it, just not on their Vitas

I agree it makes no sense. Most Vita games don't get a physical release. But that would just show how even bigger gap there is between Vita and 3DS release schedules at the moment.

The reason the 3DS has a ton of exclusives is because it can't even run Wii games (as demonstrated by the fact that Xenoblade is N3DS exclusive and still cut back from the 2011 release). So if they didn't make games specifically for 1990s architechture, there wouldn't be any games full stop.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

There's only one impact: I won't buy it.
