Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Order: I don't get it

It's a good game (so far), but not a great game (so far).

My major problem with this game is how absolutley shitty and cheap the "final boss" and the ending are. Well, that... and the fact that I didn't really had fun with the game at any moment.

It is a good movie, but certainly not a good game.
The gameplay is really lacking a lot of times. The gunplay is, as you already said, only standard stuff we have seen 10 years before already. I gotta admit that some weapons are really cool, but it just isn't enough to make the gameplay good. No meaningful collectibles doesn't make it any better.
The athmosphere is great and the graphics are awesome, but gameplay wise it doesn't have much to offer.

All of them were, no? That really was one of the most disappointing things about the game. It has so much wasted potential... A sequel could be really good though!

I just finished the part where we open some boxes (written to avoid spoiler)

Well, I don't really want to say anything that might be a spoiler or set your expectations, but I'd be interested to see what you think when you're done.

I liked the game myself, but I can definitely see both sides of the argument. I agree with you about the seriousness of the game and the quality of the acting. Very impressive on both counts. It's the first time I've felt like I was watching real actors rather than video game characters.

What all the hating is about.

At first, I thought that due to popular consensus, a somewhat toned down critique of lacking gameplay and story was acceptable. I thought, it's a mediocre game, pretty, but lacking.

Now that I've actually played it though. I just don't see where the hate is justified. The story is really good. The atmosphere is amazing. The acting is so incredibly high quality. There isn't a moment in this game where I think it's even a bit 'over the top', and for a serious game with no jokes that's really hard to do.

The gunplay is pretty standard and the variation in weapons is nice. My personal favorite is the small machine pistol with the crazy recoil. I love just running up and blasting a line up their torso and ending with a headshot. I'm currently 6 hours in, and I feel like due to the pacing, it'll probably be 3-4 more. So, I'm not understanding the problem with length either. I feel like people take opening chests and pulling a rope as "non-gameplay", but I'm not sure who is validating the criteria of what gameplay consists.

The levels are really well thought out as well. It's obvious that there is a lot of work put into the game. Areas that don't lead anywhere are fully designed.

I'm really not sure what everyone was expecting? Sony's Gears of War?

I'm glad I own it. It's really a spectacle. Literally cannot understand all the hate.

the game is great, enjoyed it from start to finish!

left me wanting more :)

how long did it take you to finish it ? i'm curious :)

is there anyway to see the actual length of my playthrough? anyhow I would say easily 9-12h. Played it on hard, read and listend to everything though :)

I'ts a very average game, nothing great, not amazing, but its not a 5 rating game either, 6.5-7.0 seems like a fairly accurate rating for the game

some Internet dwellers follow numerology. They believe in a mystical relationship between numbers and quality. The Order scored 66 on metacritic at first and was 6 hours long and thus it was deemed evil. One brave reviewer gave it a 2/10 to change the score to 65, but the damage was already done.

Or maybe the game was flawed but very popular. There was also a slow boiling backlash against "cemimatic" gameplay even before it was announced.

I think you are just supposed to hate it for no reason.  Or because you were instructed to hate it. Get with the program.  Its kinda of disturbing that you are able to enjoy a game that you were specifically told you can not enjoy. You will be told that the Order is a good movie, but not a good game... and I expect you to repent for even insuating this game could be enjoyed.  :)

It's an average game, so when so many people defend it there's obviously going to be backlash. This game has gotten far more attention than it deserves. And that's both the fault of the "haters" and "lovers". It seems there are a lot of people out there who only love it because it's on a Sony platform and vice versa (hate it because it's on a Sony platform).

Ready at Dawn should stick to handhelds. Maybe Nintendo should hire them to make a game/remake. They might learn a thing or two.
