yes? i cant see that.

and dont come with 3d world, the cat is clearly targeted at the internet and women, not at kids.

Well it just seemed pretty evident.  Alot of their characters look brightly colourful and cartoony faces so obviously many can mistaken them for kiddish games.  Also their gameplay/controls isn't that difficult either that a kid can easily grasp how to play it.

Soon, Nintendo will have Splatoon.  The title already sounds kiddish! And whats the concept of that game? To splash others with paint in some sort of childish game of man-hunt or capture the flag. Speaking of which, alot of Nintendo's game titles sounds kiddish too!

So you can't see how Nintendo games can look kiddie, but you clearly see that Mario 3D world was targeting the internet and women.  Because we all know kids don't like cats too, nor do they like to watch cat videos......sounds like you're just picking and choosing what you want to see.

colourfull and cartoony is for kids?  well thats new for me.  sure i like my milk, cookies and saturday morning cartoons in the 90s, but ohh boy, those cartoons were not made for children. dragonball was realy dirty sometimes, and Rocko was working for a sexhotline. and dont forgett that nowadays the best selling  cartoons are made for adults, not children.

splatoon is a fine jokename, i realy like it, even if it makes me a bit angry that charlie sheen didnt get an oscar for platoon...

and most nintendo games dont sound kiddish, they sound like innocent fun and a good time.

nintendo makes games everyone can enjoy, the other companys focus mostly on teens with "mature" games, but there is nothing mature about a bad told war story and  a grey world.

Gamers on forums != all people.  It's about the overall numbers, not about some PS/XB fans saying Nintendo should go 3rd party (in hope they are doomed).

PS4+XB1 userbase is going to be nearing 10X the Wii U user base, and they will sell for longer.  Even with weaker attach rates than to Wii U, Nintendo would be healthy as 3rd party on those and it could expand it's brand.

While this is true, it's also true that the average CoD player (aka, the "casuals" of the PS/XB market) does not care about Nintendo games. So, while the Nintendo fans would move over to support them, I really don't think a lot of other consumers would be interested. At least, not enough to offset the additional costs of developing for multiple platforms, as well as having to split the profits between console manufacturers (something they don't have to worry about right now).

I do agree that Nintendo would be healthy as a 3rd party (at least, for a time), but I don't think they would be substantially more healthy than they are now. And I certainly don't think this move would benefit them in the long term. It would be, at best, a temporary solution.

I never said colourful and cartoony is only for kids, but it is kiddish because majority of designs that are colourful and cartoony are aimed towards/appeal to kids.  Look at the majority of animation movies, Pixar movies (Frozen, Finding Nemo etc..) and tell me who are the majority viewers?  You'll be full of yourself if you say its not kids.  Parents take their kids to watch that. Why? Because the appearance looks suitable for kids regardless if there are some mature content.  I never said all of Nintendo games are kiddy looking, i said most.  There are exceptions, just like how DBZ is an exception, but that should be given because the concept of DBZ is human-like fighting/killing human-like.  Think of a number of Nintendo games and the main character and their villains.  I bet you alot of their villains aren't even human-like, and more so friendly looking ie. Goombas, plants, pokemons etc.

Splatoon is a fine joke name but its so simple of a joke that kids can understand.  And when you think if 'Platoon' you think of the movie and not the actual term meaning of a group of soldiers? Already you show how uniquely different you see things.  You don't think titles like Kirby's dreamland or marty party doesn't sound more attracting to kids?  They sound innocent and fun sure, just like how kids are also innocent and fun.

Yes Nintendo makes games everyone can enjoy, including kids! So if you want to market anything that kids can enjoy too then you'll have to make it look kiddy!!!  Hence back to my original point that alot of Nintendo games look kiddy.  You said it, I just elaborated and explained what you said ;P

....I don't know if you're serious about all of this or you're just trying to work me up >.>  If you don't believe me then do what I did and go work at a video game store/department and ask a bunch of kids and parents.

More "benevolent" reasons why Nintendo should go 3rd party........ I find it confusing how people don't seem to realize that every argument they can give for Nintendo going 3rd party can just as easily be aimed at Sony or MS.

Power -
Power does not equal good games. It never has and it never will. This gen up to this point is all the evidence you need of this. If you firmly believe that power is required to make captivating and engaging software, then you also believe that Sony and MS should stop making consoles and develop exclusively for pc.

Profits -
I think this one is obvious. If you think Nintendo should go 3rd party because their software can reach more people and make more profits.... well guess what? You also believe that Sony and MS should have left gaming a long time ago. They both have sustained long periods of massive loss in this market. They could both reach more consumers selling their software on other systems.

do you know an adult that didnt enjoys good disney cartoons?  lionking is the best hamlet movie possible.

and i wasnt talking about dbz, dbz is just BORING and lost all the magic.

do you realy thing kids know what a platoon is? and what is wrong with a dreamland? or a party? is that just for kids?

and there is no such thing as "kiddy". they look CUTE, but a lot of people like cute things, the only group that doesnt openly enjoys cute things are males between 12 and 20. TEENS! Teens arent mature or adult and they dont care about adult themes or mature storys, all they care about is what others think(sure some are different, but we are all clever enough to know that exceptions are allways implicated).

a good book or movie for children has much more mature elemtents than a cod campaign, why? because the western way of telling childrensstorys wasnt invented as a way of telling storys to children, it was invented to teach uneducated people moral lessons, and those were brutal, and were just toned down a little when told to children.

"just like how kids are also innocent and fun." well this is unintentionelly funny...

That's not a good argument because you are using mediocrity in an attempt to prove that high quality games wouldn't sell.

Then again, it works perfectly as a parody thread because the same line of thinking was used to justify that third parties didn't make bigger investments into Wii development.

How am I using mediocrity? All the games I listed as "kiddie" on PS and XB all have good to great reviews. There's nothing mediocrity about them. And I don't care what you say about the standards about 3rd party games and all that, you're wrong about only Nintendo games being good (like you make it out to be)

You're telling me that those disney cartoons or any other animated movies has never been labeled by anybody as 'kids movies'? Lion king is an amazing movie, but you've never heard anybody called it a kids movie before?  Was the lion king movie not in the 'kids' section of a video rental store??  If there's a place that has a 'kids' section they don't consist of anything that's cartoony?  Pretty much what you're getting at now is there's no such thing as 'kiddy' because what's for kids is for everybody.  But that funny because the term 'kiddy' is a real saying that people use to describe things that are more aimed to kids, heck you even know what I meant when I said 'kiddy'.

If you want to settle this then why don't you ask a bunch of kids and parents on their perspective of what's 'kiddy' giving them mine and your opinion.  I bet you they'll agree with mine more.  Or better yet, go to a video game store/department, find and ask a kid to point out all the kiddy games in the entire game selections, I bet you that kid will be at the Nintendo section pointing out the most games there.

Clearly we see things differently so lets just end this.  Thanks for your opinion and debate =)

I say an astounding YES !

I say this with 3 reasons in mind.

1- Their resume of games are heavily geared to the kid gaming community. That 5-16 age range will be pure gold to them sales wise on say a Playstation 4/ XB1 console.

2- Most gamer's own 2 consoles. With a move towards a 3rd party software focus, the big N now does not have to focus o console sales. With the PS4 selling almost 20 million and the XB1 at approx 11 million consoles sold, the big N would see healthy software sales on both consoles.

3- With the power of the Playstation 4, the big N can now shift their focus to 2 main focuses. they can now go back to making great games and now they do not have to focus on creating too much new IP's. Their stable of established franchises along with a massive backlog will ensure them successful as a multi platform developer.

But what am I thinking, the big N will NEVER go 3rd party. It makes way too much sense.

1- I have already disproven this in the OP: "kiddie" games don't sell well on the new systems.

2- Most gamers DO NOT own 2 consoles: only "hardcore" gamers do. And that's the minority of every one owning a console.

3- Woth the power of PS4 comes higher production  costs of making a game, and marketing one. That means less money from each copy sold. Nintendo would have to sell a lot more games to make up the difference, and as I showed in the OP, there really isn't a market for those kind of games...
