Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ways Nintendo can boost WiiU sales

1. HD remake.... last nintendo direct gave us Mario Galaxy 2 on WiiU .... this is pretty bad business by nintendo. They could of made a HD remake of Galaxy 1 & 2 and bundle them for $50. This can be handle by outside studio and boost software available to WiiU. There so many games that could benefit from the HD treatment.

2. WiiU consoles colour scheme... Black and white??? Nintendo has gone down this path before and it has result in short term increase in hardware sales. More limited edition WiiU's that would boost sales and put the focus on Nintendo WiiU if only to generate some news.

3.  WiiU Slim or WiiU redesign... rather then change colour release a new redesign WiiU. WiiU 250-500gb anyone?

4.  Every new game should have get a limited run WiiU bundle, software sales consoles and what better way to boost sales then to try to entice new customer with a limited edition bundle.

5.  Price cut.... MSRP has been $299 since August 2013, sure price cut is not the only solutions but it's certainly not going to hurt. The only way to boost softwares sales is by increasing the current install based. Lost revenue on hardware is quickly made up in periphiral and softwares.

6.  More software, sure Nintendo by now has completely lost third party support, It's time for Nintendo to build a staple of 2nd Party partnership studios. Nintendo cant make enough software to prevent software drought and there enough struggling studios in Japan and around the world that could use some security that nintendo can provide by funding their game development.

7.  Better use of Nintendo Direct, I think there should be a monthly Nintendo direct that focus on every WiiU and 3DS games coming out in the near future. These Nintendo direct should no longer feature Iwata and his broken english (I'm not saying drop Iwata entirely just doesn't have to have him do every Nintendo Direct) , Nintendo has large marketing such as the Tree House and Bill Trinen that would be much better a conveying the Monthly Nintendo Direct message. Let marketing do their job.

8.  Capcom.... buy them enough said.

9. Bring more Apps to the Nintendo WiiU, allowing for more diversity will have people using their WiiU more often.  Give people reason to use their WiiU every day will increase interest in the WiiU and may generate positive word of mouth advertising.

10.  Recapture the casual market, Xbox one and PS4 aren't really focusing on this market segment either.

3. & 4. Give it the "New 3ds" treatment, a bit more RAM like half a gig., increase the clock speed of CPU & 64GB of internal memory. Make a more slick gamepad & some special editions like a Zelda, Starfox edition.

6. & 8. As you said there quite a few talented struggling companies in Japan & overseas that could be making games for 3DS & WiiU. I mean, FPS were a part of the success of N64, we had Golgeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok, Duke Nukem, Quake, Doom, 007 The world is not enough... even the GameCube had plenty of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Nintendo_GameCube_first-person_shooters

Where are they on WiiU??? Now that they are more popular than ever, we have 2 COD games & Zombie U which is more a survival game than a frantic FPS! Nintendo should do something about this issue, I hope Retro has been hard at work on a new Metroid First Person Adventure/Shooter game including a Bounty Hunter/Alien filled on-line multiplayer mode!

We have 1 racing game NFS, with Project CARS coming whenever if ever...

Nintendo should spend a bit of their war chest & buy Level 5, Platinum & 51% of Capcom, on top of that they should have 1 more american or european studio dedicated to making FPS games!

The last point & a crucial one I would had is MARKETING!!! Nintendo marketing has been abysmal for the last 4/5 years, like it's Oprah doing Nintendo's marketing, it does not work with gamers. Do this kind of marketing for Wii Fit or Brain Training, not for Mario Kart!!!

Marketing is expensive but Nintendo has to be in the front row, they need clever & appealing marketing that has to be seen!!!

I'm a huge Nintendo fan & I will always buy Nintendo consoles & games, but God bless my PC where I can play my racing sims & FPS + the occasional adventure game...

I totally agree in both post.. and belive we will se most of them :) the capcom and galaxy i don't know (sunshine.. waverace.. luigis manson would be better imo)

But this especall..

Give it the "New 3ds" treatment, a bit more RAM like half a gig., increase the clock speed of CPU & 64GB of internal memory. Make a more slick gamepad & some special editions like a Zelda, Starfox edition.

This makes so much sense.. a "slick" version of the gamepad can rebrand WiiU.. and make it far more appeling.. like the Lite did for the DS

(more power for menus and loading are ok.. as long as all games still can be played at old WiiU's)

And i totally agree in everything.. this is precisly the thing WiiU needs..

If i should put money on it.. i would say that "color scheme/skins" and "pricecut" will probelly come this year.. And I very much see a E3 where Nintendo show the "The redesigned Upad"  (could be insane if there also came an updatet system OS, and The new acount system.. :)

They need more games.. and they should make sure that happens.. But I think it will pass as WiiU soon is a 10+ seller.. there will be serius money in it for 3 party.. (hov long can ea hold back.. they know they can sell a mill+ of some types of games) 10 mill+ people hungering for games, will start look more and more interesting for game makers

few more things they should (and hopefully will) do..

Add few eshop money to bundles

GC VC

And most important.. :) show us the freaking VR headset.. Playeble at this years e3.. (or atlest show it)

It's fun.. Nintendo has/believed in all the things needed for VR.. motion/gyro control.. wireless gyrocontroled second screen.. and even The wii-board fits VR.. They has made a VR product in the past.. And WiiU is  prepered totally (can send the image to a wireless screen and controll it with motion.gyro.. headtracking  (and they do not need expensive super duper 4k VR.. just super slim and nice Wii-R :) And even so Samsung.. Sony.. MS.. facebook.. and other gaming related are working hard on it.. People act like Nintendo not very well could drop the bomb.. (the bomb would be a playble "perfectly reacting" VR headset.. and games like Spaltton. MK8.. mario.. zelda.. cod.. all in VR)

10)Do more Directs, with Wii U as the focus and for their biggest games perhaps hold a direct that is aired on national TV, with a major celebrity as the host, someone who is very entertaining and preferably a gamer, with a cool image.

More came to mind:

11)Oh yeah make a Pokemon Open World RPG, with full Amiibo support between New 3DS and Wii U.
12)Create a Wii U, New 3DS/XL bundle and capitalize on the release of the new handheld by selling more Wii Us along with it.
13)Create a new IP like Kingdom Hearts, but with a tonne of Nintendo's Characters, a new lead character that goes on an adventure across the Nintendo Universe.

14)Make HD remakes of beloved old Nintendo games.

15)Get some awesome exclusive indies and bundle them on disc.

10) this would be expensive as hell, 40 min. of national TV??? 1 min of publicity on national TV can cost millions, I can only imagine 40 min.

13) this actually is a great idea, done well by Square under Nintendo supervision it would be a MegaTon!!!

10) Would cover a bunch of games, so the costs could be divided across a few releases of games. 20 minutes of actual TV time would obviously be half the price of that. A one off at Primetime would be great advertizing and with the right personality backing it, it would do wonders for the platform. I admit it's a bit of a long shot thing, maybe something Nintendo should do when they announce a new console, have a properly directed approach to really reveal to the world, outside of just the people that would normally watch Nintendo Directs that Nintendo are back!

13) Occurred to me a while back, I don't necessarily think Nintendo could get Square to do that, but Monolith Soft or even the devs behind Zelda could maybe do it.

Possibly a collaborative effort, built as a similar kind of development approach to Splatoon, after hours, but involving multiple studios. Nintendo has all of the assets from the various games they've made this generation, so the biggest thing to deal with would be the world, even that could be a merging of all of Nintendo's major 3D levels.

With something like Nintendo Universe, an open world Pokemon and the past big hitters, rolling all of that into the Nintendo TV Program Direct thing would be a worthwhile effort and I think Wii U may actually get a decent boost.

N Universe would definitely be a Megaton, I really don't know why Nintendo hasn't made something like that in the past, or especially this generation, because the Wii U could do it justice.

I honestly think Nintendo diehards wouldn't care if Wii U didn't get a Mario game on par with Galaxy 1/2, 64 or Sunshine if it had a release like that!

This can be handle by outside studio and boost software available to WiiU. There so many games that could benefit from the HD treatment. Given the choice to release Galaxy 2 for the Virtual Console, ships sailed on a Super Mario All Stars 3D, at least until the next galaxy game comes to market. As far as the other titles, the bundles won't sell as well and they can pimp each Zelda game out and sell it at a premium price, so why go that route there?

2. WiiU consoles colour scheme... Black and white??? Nintendo has gone down this path before and it has result in short term increase in hardware sales. More limited edition WiiU's that would boost sales and put the focus on Nintendo WiiU if only to generate some news.  This could work, but its a stop-gap solution at best, and would also require Nintendo to spread themselves even further than they already are to produce the new console colors. This also doesn't help them move units that are already sitting on store shelves.

3.  WiiU Slim or WiiU redesign... rather then change colour release a new redesign WiiU. WiiU 250-500gb anyone? A new slim model once again does not help them move the units already sitting on the shelves and in their storage warehouses, not to mention I can buy an external HDD and hook it up to my Wii U via USB.

4.  Every new game should have get a limited run WiiU bundle, software sales consoles and what better way to boost sales then to try to entice new customer with a limited edition bundle.  It really seems like you want Nintendo to produce even more of a console that already isn't selling well. Retail shelf space is limited, and so is storage space. This could work though, if they worked out a deal with retailers to include a game with the console, rather than a newly produced bundle.

5.  Price cut.... MSRP has been $299 since August 2013, sure price cut is not the only solutions but it's certainly not going to hurt. The only way to boost softwares sales is by increasing the current install based. Lost revenue on hardware is quickly made up in periphiral and softwares. A price cut is definitely needed. I would go as far as $200 or $250 with the consumers option of a game or addtional controller. Nintendo has to get these things in peoples homes and let word of mouth work its magic.

Nintendo has been losing $400million~ for the last three years straight. Yes they need to expand slightly, but Nintendo is already spread thin as is. They have to produce Amiibo, two consoles, support each with first party games, hype interest in new games and IP's, manage a new online network, and produce accessories. They have to be careful what they spend their money on or it'll dry up, fast.

Monthly ND's are something that they should definitely focus on, but with more gameplay footage and less cinematic footage. Possibly even make them shorter to justify having them more often. Iwata should stay, shows that the company believes in him and reassures investors for not ousting him(he should be fired tho).

8.  Capcom.... buy them enough said. Buy Megaman or Breath of Fire, not Capcom. Buying Megaman or Breath of Fire makes more sense than the whole struggling company. Either would add diversity to the companies first party IP's as well as add in options for whole new lines of Amiibo, instead of 5 different Mario Amiibo lines.

9. Bring more Apps to the Nintendo WiiU, allowing for more diversity will have people using their WiiU more often.  Give people reason to use their WiiU every day will increase interest in the WiiU and may generate positive word of mouth advertising. Music, picture, and movie viewing are something the OS really needs, and should have already. As far as more apps go, its a slipery sloap at this point. Everything that runs in the background while you play a game takes away from the consoles horsepower thats available for the game.

10.  Recapture the casual market, Xbox one and PS4 aren't really focusing on this market segment either. Casuals have mostly moved on to cellphones and tablets. Nintendo got the casual market last generation by having a neat gimick and a cheap system that had mass appeal. By the end of the Wii's lifespan it was losing money. Why? Casuals moved on to free or .99c games that were on things they already owned.

Nintendo needs to focus on the more mature or older auidence. Kids over the age of 10 and teens don't care about Nintendo any more. Its a kiddy company to them, and lets be honest, thats how Nintendo protrays itself. Nintendo's next console needs to have more third party support, as well as a more diverse line up of first party games. They also need to have more mature titles and market them well. Devils Third is not the answer Nintendo is looking for when it comes to the Mature shooter market. It's a new IP that no one has really heard of outsides Nintendo fans. Not to mention that... it looks kind lame. Nintendo already has its own Mature FPS game that it can focus on and develop, Metroid. A new Megaman Legends could also do wonders for the system, as well as the revival of the Breath of Fire series. The Breath of Fire series can also be taken in a more mature direction, since the last real game we got was Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter for the PS2 which had an excellent dark and gritty story as well as fun and engaging gameplay. Another option to diversify the game library for the Wii U would be a Tales of game. Nintendo already has a good working relationship with Namco Bandai or Bandai Namco or Namdai Banco or whatever they want to call themselves this week, so a new Tales of game could be a great option as well.

You do know that they can't just buy Capcom right? Like, Capcom costs a lot of money and there are many things to consider when buying a company...

LIES! Nintendo will buy Capcom, Sega, and Sony to start the Japanese Trinity and usher in a new golden age for video games!

Sorry Capcom and Sony but the Triforce has already been set.  The Triforce was Nintendo's Arcade hardware.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Around the Network

Half those things will never happen and the other half will not boost Wii U sales by any significant margin. People just are not attracted to Wii U's software line up and you can bet MS would outbid Ninendo in buying Capcom. Nintendo didn't even want to pony up the dollars to buy out Rare back in the day and Rare was a treasured and sought after developer!

I definately would buy SMG HD cos i have never played original and twilight princess looks terrible on my 50 tv so i assume so will wii version of smg

Give a free PS4 with each Wii U sold.

Then microsoft buys nintendo with its endless cash supply and they usher in a new age of monopolistic gaming! Nintendo and sony exclusives go to Microsoft, and thats it!
