Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo will never be "third party friendly"

This is a double-edged sword.. On one hand, it's good that Nintendo doesn't kiss the ass of companies like EA, but on the other hand they miss out on 3rd party games that are actually important and/or good!

No matter how good the game is, it is on sale at gamestop used. I have seen every single game, rated the highest, so your argument holds no water at all.

Gotta agree. I remember Ben (the gamestop manager) talking about having hundreds upon hundreds of used copies of God of War 3 at his store since everyone would play it and trade it in as soon as possible (after beating it) to get as much money back as possible. And we can all agree that overall it was a well-received game by the gaming community. Unlike Destiny or Watch_Dogs that have had mixed receptions.

I'm sure it's a similar case with The Last of Us, but especially with single player games.

Let's also not forget the Sale of used games have squeezed the pockets of 3rd party. So this might have been out of necessity. People seem to forget these games cost Millions to make and for every Gamestop there are plenty of used versions of everygame, this is in every county, somtimes town. So I would say that this cutting into their bottom line has done a lot to push them to these types of activities, lets not forget of rising costs in software developement.

How this terrible argument has managed to persist for this long is beyond me.

If you as a video game developer don't want people to sell your games, make sure that they are good enough so that people want to keep them.

Regarding rising development costs, don't bite off more than you can chew. Development costs only rise if you allow them to.

Unlike you, I run my own business and this plays a major role. Go ask your local Gamestop how many used games they sell a day, then take that amount and times it by $60, you will see 1,000s upon 1,000s of dollars of lost revenue. The fact you over look this would make you a horrible business owner. When they make games, they add this into their developement time, meaning they can only put so much in before it becomes a game that can close your doors for good.

No matter how good the game is, it is on sale at gamestop used. I have seen every single game, rated the highest, so your argument holds no water at all.

And before gamestop there was eb games andaillion other stores that sold used games. The only thing that has changed is the publishers business model. Gamestop just monopolized something that was already there for decades.

I really can't see why next Nintendo hardware cant be third party friendly, all they need similar architecture and power (not less power) like PS4/Xbox One.

I'm hoping that remains the case.

Why would having a similar "power" to the 8th. gen consoles magically give them this?

Third parties shouldn't expect handouts, the ones who work with Nintendo are quite happy (Platinum, Nordic)

Nordic games ?? Since when?

I believe they should be making some consessions for third parties.

That is clearly not what nintendo thinks.

If Nintendo were to make a third party friendly console (that means to the wishes of the major third party publishers), then said console would immediately enter the death spiral. As such, any suggestions that Nintendo should listen to third parties are preposterous.

I agree for the most part. But i wanted to discuss snce some seem to be hopeful for this to happen.

yes, the size and scale of what Gamestop has achieved is second to none.
