Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo will never be "third party friendly"

They have good reasons for that. One by one each third party developer is caught doing shady business where profits go before quality control and player benefits.

Bugs are found behind every corner, DLC contains maps and modes that were developed alongside the main game yet for some reason were not included despite all of the remaining space on the disc, microtransactions give disproportionally large benefits to those willing to pay extra upon the game's full price, entire multiplayer modes barely function upon release, blatant excuses are made to avoid developing games at 60 frames per second, the existence of next generation versions are denied to make people purchase one game twice, and the list goes on and on.

The less third party friendly Nintendo is, the less cancerous they will be to the video game industry.

Though we all know the hardware is completely 3rd party friendly. Is it hard to develop for? No. Is it expensive to develop for? No. We all know what's REALLY going on: Nintendo just doesn't kiss 3rd parties' asses and thus they're bitter about it. Nintendo refuses to be intimidated by what can best be described as bullying or at the very least incessant whining. What 3rd parties want would be detrimental, to both Nintendo and consumers at large. And considering how 3rd parties are continuing to struggle with making any sort of profit, continually releasing games unfinished, repeatedly lay staff off, and are having difficulties keeping the market stable let alone expanding it while Nintendo has hardly had a dent made in their company then it's clear who's the smarter company. No need to try and pander to a bunch of incompetent twits

I do agree that have a third party publisher lead industry has done nothing but shrunk and devalue the product of video games. I wouldnt say they dont know whT they are doing its just they care more about their bottom line as opposed to having a healthy market in the console space.

I have been seeing a lot of wishful thinking about Nintendo's next hardware being third party friendly as some like to call it.

STOP DOING THIS TO YOURSELVES. They will never be that because their business model doesn't include that.

Even when they had the most successful consoles, some of which had plenty of third party games, they were NOT "third party friendly". Examples in clude the NES, SNES and Wii.

From what Nintendo has stated recently that is not going to change. Miyamoto recently revealed that Nintendo's internal studios, remember this, have begun design work on the next hardware. Not too suprising really. However, a lot of people are feeling that this will be "third party friendly" due to unconfirmed rumours.

You know what is confirmed? That Nintendo will be consulting their own internal studios and not third party publishers. So stop doing this to yourselves. Just wait to see what it turns out to ve and judge accordingly.

Tagging for a reply in about 5 hours.

Is there some revelation in 5 hours time?

They are in direct competition with 3rd party game developers, so no they won't ever be friendly. The best selling games on competing consoles are molstly 3rd party, so those console makers don't have as much of an issue, but Nintendo make a huge % of their profit from software, and so it would make bad business sense to be overly friendly to the competition.

Let's also not forget the Sale of used games have squeezed the pockets of 3rd party. So this might have been out of necessity. People seem to forget these games cost Millions to make and for every Gamestop there are plenty of used versions of everygame, this is in every county, somtimes town. So I would say that this cutting into their bottom line has done a lot to push them to these types of activities, lets not forget of rising costs in software developement.

Yes but this business strategy has not moved a lot of units, accept for the wii, which was a fad. However profits I'm sure hit their mark. So in the end if that makes them happy, fine but they are not doing as either my fiance', nor I would like. My girl loves nintendo but is drawn to Xbox a whole lot more as of recent.

If nintendos consoles are comparable in power with the rest they will recieve third party games, just look at the gamecube.
If they decide not to go with machines as powerful as the competetion then no, they will not receive third party support.

How this terrible argument has managed to persist for this long is beyond me.

If you as a video game developer don't want people to sell your games, make sure that they are good enough so that people want to keep them.

Regarding rising development costs, don't bite off more than you can chew. Development costs only rise if you allow them to.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Unlike you, I run my own business and this plays a major role. Go ask your local Gamestop how many used games they sell a day, then take that amount and times it by $60, you will see 1,000s upon 1,000s of dollars of lost revenue. The fact you over look this would make you a horrible business owner. When they make games, they add this into their developement time, meaning they can only put so much in before it becomes a game that can close your doors for good.

No matter how good the game is, it is on sale at gamestop used. I have seen every single game, rated the highest, so your argument holds no water at all.
