Terrible idea...what they need to do is fix the gameplay instead of wasting time with Telltale, who certainly aren't known for the gameplay.

Fix Telltale games style gameplay or Minecraft gameplay? I'm guessing the former but your posts just reads in a way where it confuses me a bit.

  • The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.
Why spend 2.5 billion buying a franchise if you're not going to make it exclusive.

Anyways not really a big fan of Telltale so I'll pass.

I'm guessing people don't know about StampyLonghead or the fact that many people, kids especially, love to watch story based Minecraft videos.

I love this idea.

So much this.  My kids will be going crazy over this.

Mineraft is huge mostly outside of consoles, it's a good addition to their libraries but not a system seller for them, but MS hopes it can continue to be, with sequels and spin-offs, a money maker for a long time. As a money maker they'll put it on as many systems as possible and they'll use other franchises as exclusive system sellers.  This at least looks like a possible explanation to me.
What puzzles me is actually another thing: Mojang came without its most important brain, Notch sold it because he couldn't stand the pressure anymore and he wants to restart from a smaller company. I wonder whether Mojang without Notch can really be worth all that money... Maybe MS did its maths and reckoned Minecraft alone with the potential that can still be squeezed out of it is worth the investment anyway.

Fix Minecraft gameplay...

If Telltale was the company I was referring to when I said "they", that would mean I would be saying that Telltale should stop wasting time with Telltale.

So does that mean that the game will become super serious and dialogue heavy?

I don't know why everyone thinks this is such a bad idea. Do you all have any idea how many shows and books there are out there telling stories that take place in Minecraft? Kids eat this stuff up wholesale.

What is wrong with Minecraft gameplay? I'm now inredibly curious as to what you find to be an issue.

It isn't pacing to become the best selling game of all time because people don't like the gameplay. The gameplay is fantastic. It encourages imagination and building, similar to that of LEGOs.

People on forums tend to hate Minecraft, CoD, mobile gaming, etc... They hate anything that is popular, especially if it is more popular than their favorite series, hence why you will notice a large distaste for Minecraft in the pro-Nintendo community. A.) It isn't on Nintendo consoles and B.) It's currently more popular than anything Nintendo related with children. Ask most kids if they play Mario or Minecraft and the large majority will say Minecraft. It really is THE game these days, whether the forum goers like it or not.

Minecraft is what children want. It sparks the imagination. It encourages building, whether it be alone or co-op with friends. When my daughter plays it she treats it as if she is playing house. Builds pens for animals, builds homes and towns with residents and pretends her character is a someone who lives within this pretend world of hers, much like she do if she were playing with dolls, which she does as well. She prefers to play in creative so monsters do not attack. For her it is entirely about playing in an imaginative world that gives her total freedom to play the way she wants.

When she isn't playing Minecraft she likes to watch Stampy and learn from him cool things to make, along with enjoying him hanging out with his Minecraft friends. Sometimes she tries to get me to play with her and pretend we are making our own stories and videos.

The game is fantastic.
