The real Zelda still hasn't hit store shelves, nor do we have a Metroid, an Animal Crossing or any real details about Star Fox. The Wii U has not reached its full potential.

The Wii U is a competent console with great games and a ton of potential given Nintendo's strength in IP's. It may not be a big hit with a casual audience like the PS4, but I am glad they aren't pulling a Sega.

People normally don't count the system life cycle upto its discontinuation. Because than the NES would be active for 18 years.

now seriously, this could drag for more 3 years without breaking a sweat, their are set in their way and they will be broke before they change. Sad, really. I could see myself buying a nintendo console but i know i wont. I dislike the mario character, and its impossible to have a nintendo console without mario being thrown into your face constantly. So i invest my time else where.

Really? I own every Nintendo console. I haven't bought any Mario game on my Wii. And really had no problem ignoring Galaxy, for example. I don't hate Mario, but at the same time. I don't have a drive to buy every game the characters in.

Every console has potential, its just a matter of how much effort the companies want to put into it.
