And they just posted a profit last quarter too.

Sigh.

Pull out of phones and TVs already.

Got to hold a Compact Z2 and the phone felt really awesome!

Yup. I think in the end we are going to see Sony focus on entertainment (Sony Pictures) music, and Computer Entertainment. Those are the most profitable parts. Oh and they are also a bank. So in the end it will be movies, music PlayStation and Sony Electronic and Mobile divisions will be much smaller subsets of what they are today. PlayStation of course will be fine. They are the market leaders and that ensures that PlayStation will survive untouched. PlayStation is not doomed but I'm not sure if some of their other divisions will survive.

They could split  off the unprovitable parts and sell them to recoup some cash.   They can't depend on their profitable divisions.  THey have to shed the dead weight.

That sucks :-/ as much as I respect kaz maybe its time he get replaced?

Add me if u want :)

Look at the bright side, a good serving of doom every few months helps to minimize the number of salt threads

That is a hell of an ironic post.

-snip-

How so? I'm being literal (though using "doom" in the meme context, of course).

When any of the big three go too long without any shitty console sales or financial reports we end up with a lot of salt threads. It hasn't been anywhere near as bad as Sony and MS fans back during the Wii/DS peak years, but it's certainly been quite unpleasant the last couple of months.

A recent example would be the WiiU vs X1's "battle for 2nd place". The X1's recent 2 weeks of victory have toned down the drama surrounding it considerably. If it continues to beat the WiiU for several more weeks the original effect will just reverse, but the peace and quiet is nice while it lasts.

It has to be said though, ignoring how utterly childish the console wars can be, they sure are interesting to watch. It's a particularly amusing example of the in/out social group structure we all live by :p

This. Sometimes to save the rest of the body you have to amputate the nectrotic limb.

That is quite the blunder Sony had on mobile. Every quarter it seems they lose money on mobile and they just say next quarter or next year they will get profit from it.

Maybe if they stop sponsoring everything with the PS,cut back on T.V. ads, and forking over all their profits to publishers they probably wouldn't lose so much. I know a company that does it right

This sucks.

I wonder how much longer of a leash Kaz Hirai has. They are taking some real heavy losses.
