Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony To Post $2 Billion+ Loss

While the part about Sony closing doors is effectively wishful thinking, the rest is true and we see a lot of people without any real knowledge of what's going on (number wise) not believing that Sony is, indeed, in trouble...

Nothing to do with pro-Sony or not. Sony is bleeding money for years now.
This has actually nothing to with the Playstation or the fans. It is just a fact and frankly a sad one as Sony was at some point a very successful company...

Just because something is true or a fact, it doesnt mean it's any less anti-x company. People can hide behind facts all they want but most of us can see the patterns in one's posts. Don't you think there is a reason certain users tend to discuss aspects of their favourite company in which it is doing well and choose to ignore other topics?

Think of it this way. Pezus decides to start a crusade against MS and makes thread after thread about their failures. Xbone doing bad, surface failing to do well despite its massive advertising budget, windows 8 being hated by the average user, their phones unable to compete with Sumsung and Apple, etc. Would all these things be facts? Sure. Would there be a reason he chooses to talk about these facts instead of MS's departments in which it's doing well? Yes. Same with Sony. Just because someone is stating a fact, it doesn't mean there is no malicious intent.

Quite sad to hear about Sony's loss, while they lose 2 billion Microsoft spend 2 billion+ on Minecraft...

Of course they are malicious intents, not going to argue with that. But there is a difference between some department/areas doing bad and the whole company results.

Now, just because I prefer Microsoft systems, it is a malicious intent to post in this thread? Or to give my oppinion about the Sony's poor situation?

Honnestly 90% (making out numbers here, please do not quote me) of the users here have NO CLUE how those things works. Hell, when we are talking about firing Kaz they are coming back comments like : "And then what? we hire Don Mat. instead?"... Like they see Sony as a gaming company only without really understand what was/is Sony and why they are really in a deep shit right now despite the HUGE success of their beloved Playstation.

I'm not a huge fan of the Playstation system in general (never liked the controller/interface), also because of the eco-system (I'm using all Microsoft services) and all my friends are using an Xbox. But I like Sony very much, I'm using a lot of Sony devices (TVs....) and I see this a really bad thing for the company, their employees and the market.

I will say one thing, this is evil for me to say, but I do hope Sony continues to lose money, until they sell off the rights to Spider man back to the original owner.

I wish FOX would do the same for the X-Men because we need an AvX movie in the future. xD

PS4 holds little weight in Sony general well being (as PS3 held little weight on Sony loss in general).

No... that had a lot of weight. 6$ billion is not a small amount.

When you are losing U$5B a year (confirmed and audited) the assumed 6B (that have been quite recovered) isn't of great weight.

Profits of gaming division in Billion of Yens

2004 67.6

2005 43

2006 8.7 (Profits from PS2 eaten by PS3 R&D and Launch)

2007 -232

2008 -124.5

2009 -58.5

2010 -83.3 (Game merged in Network Product & Services) - Vaio loses are put together

2011 35.6 (Game merged in Network Product & Services) - Vaio loses are put together.... or 48.5 if considered alone

2012 -229.8 (CPS) - TV and Vaio loses make harder to view.... or 29.3 if considered alone

2013 1.7 (Won't use in the sum because PS4 dev cost and else is lumped here... 15% less revenue than 2012 but a lot worse profit)

2014 -8 (A lot of the loss due to PS4 launching and R&D... 15% more revenue than 2012 but resulting in loss)

So summing 2007 -2012 which would be the core of PS3 would result -420 B Yen, more or less 4B dollars. And if you see PS2 were doing like 0,5B a year... so Playstation doesn't make much money for Sony even when selling a lot, and when they were dumping Sony financials it was 10% of the impact, TV, Vaio and Phones do a lot worst job on Sony financials when they go bad.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

They don't need to do bad they need to listen to Dan Loeb... they are cutting or spinning the sectors that have been doing bad for years... but I would happily trade the billion of loss for years in TV and Phone make it all in Pictures so Sony TV were still great, Xperias sold really well and they sold parts of Pictures to make it afloat.

How can they still be posting these kinds of losses? One would hope that they level of soon and atleast post a little profit.

Because the PS to the rest of Sony is the runt of the litter. Smartphones, TVs, Movies, etc are all big chunks of change.

If MS offered Kaz Hirai 4 or 5 Mojangs, i.e. 10 - 12 billion cash for SCE and all of its studios and associated brands, do you think he should take the offer? I think he should.

You know, the reason Sony is failing is because they aren't following the goal they were founded on. The goal is the elevation of Japanese consumer electronics, and considering their most profitable part is insurance, they need a new goal.
