Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Order: 1886 Dev Defends Bungie's Destiny: "Review Score Under 8 Is Ludicrous, Deserves More Just For Scope And Art"

The fact that many reviews have placed originality as a reason for low scores is odd. Considering FIFA gets 9/10 every year. But then, what do I know, I liked Remember Me.

Hmm, pie.

It is pick and choose kind of mentality though. When Uncharted's, GTA's and Last of Us, Mario Galaxies, etc get big scores, multiple threads are made for that ordeal. If someone shows skepticism, metacritic and review scores are brought up to shut them up and further mocked. Now a big game gets bad scores and the fun factor is being brought up by many. I respect and am happy that they are enjoying a game despite the popular opinion. It would just be better if we as collective group show more consistency and be less hypocritical.

Ignore the reviews and ignore the hype too. If not those, just ignore the previews atleast. More time is spent riding the hype wave than it takes to beat most of those video games when they eventually come out.

I'm pretty sure its the high expectation that did the damage.

Last time I played it, I was having a blast. It looks great, plays great but it only lasted about 6 minutes before I was back in the EXACT same location doing a very similar mission. The repetition and poor story is painful. The slow burning rewards dont really help either.

I don't know really. I don't own the game. So I really have no say in the matter. But maybe people expected it to be more so a online FPS game. With tacked on MMO stuff. But when people got it. It was more of a full MMO. Which turned a lot of people off, maybe? I'm just throwing out ideas.

Well I guess reviewers are going to wait for their review copies to the last day aswell for the order then..

That guy on GAF was correct.
If Destiny is barely managing to cling onto 75 meta, given the amount of negativity following The Order throughout the months, it is dangerously approaching Knack territory.

It's actually absurd to put Destiny and The Order together considering The Order has little hype right now. What is more likely is that The Order will come as a bit of a pleasant surprise, i.e. is better than expected, and so reviewers will give it pretty good scores and it too will end up in the high 70s - low 80s. At least i hope so. It is unlikely to suffer from the disappointment factor because expectations seem to be relatively low.

The Order will hang on its story, if that is tight and engaging then generic gameplay will be mostly given a pass and won't affect scores too badly, as long as it's not broken gameplay.

As to what the guy says, that Destiny "deserves" at least an 8, all I can say is that a comment like that feeds into all that is wrong with the game review system, being a game is generally regarded as trash if it metas below 8. The RAD guy should have said that a.game that averages over 7/10 is still a very good game and  is worth buying and playing for anyone who likes FPS. The only thing about a game in that range is that it probably won't appeal to people who don't particularly like the genre. And I must say, as a person in that camp not much about Destiny appeals to me. If reviewers had said "story as deep and engaging as Bioshock or Halflife 2" I may have become interested.

So just because one of the devs for the game defended Destiny you figured that means The Order will turn out the same? You know your constant Sony bashing lately has been getting a bit tiresome.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Very surprised that Destiny has received so much negativity. Tacked on story, sure, and I'm becoming overly familiar with the planet maps, but playing through with a friend is some of the most fun I've had gaming recently. Most aspects of the game are very well executed. Incredibly solid gameplay with an addictive looting system and beautiful planetary vistas.. easy 8/10 from me. Bungie still has a firm grasp on their craft.

It's all about the game.

There is one thing a game needs to have to be an MMO. It needs to have a persistent online world, and if it doesn't have it then its not an MMO.

The scores are obviously bullshit. It's just a new media attention grab tactics that really became popular with the rise of the eighth gen.
