If trends are anything to go buy these days, the XB1 will eventually pass the Wii U eventually...

But it doesn't seem its gonna happen before next year at the earliest.

Even if MCC does big holiday sales, All Smash has to do is sell 2 million consoles less then MCC and the Wii U will stay on top.

Thoughts?

I really don't think XB1 will pass WiiU this year. Worldwide, Smash is enough to counter MCC; Destiny will do well, but the PS4 will be the lead console for its sales effect. I guess COD could give XB1 a big push in sales though.

It'll happen eventually, but I think WiiU will hold on to second place throughout 2014.

I'm gettig less and less confident in this but I'm still going with my main man Microsoft. Destiny will close that gap somewhat at release and the following weeks and the holidays will kill it.

People underestimate the synergies of all the 3rd party games.

No matter what happens, I bet X1 and Wii U will be less than 500k apart on January 1st.

Not this year, but maybe next year... As great as MCC and Sunset Overdrive may be... I think Nintendo's System sellers have more weight than X1's do this year. You can argue that X1 has much better third party support than the wiiU which it does by a large margin but, by the looks of it, the third party games both look and perform better on the ps4 than the x1 so I really don't think its that great of an advantage in terms of new potential owners but we will see

Clearly Nintendo is going to stay on top. With Wii U consistently outselling the X1 each week, the gap is going in the wrong direction for Microsoft and to say that they'll be able to not only close it but to surpass that gap during Nintendo's busiest time of the year, with Mario Kart and Smash Bros and Amiibos to help sell it, is just wrong.

It ain't happening this year, and I'd be surprised if it happened before Nintendo unveiled the Wii U's successor.
