I don't even have the cash to buy a PS4 right now and that has a way higher priority for me personally, I might get a used Wii U for Zelda at one point, if I can get one for 150€ or something.

Also I do emulate some of their old games from time to time.

And finally, I'm not really waiting for them to go third party, I'm saying that I see it as a viable possibility that the company shouldn't ignore, it's not like I think it'll happen in the next couple years or something.

I understand the first two points of course but the last one.. even if it was the only option, going third party is a very bad idea. We already have a good example of a company that became third party and... it isn't a pretty example. (Sega) It might happen in the future but... it isn't a good option for Nintendo.

Eeeeh, Segas problem is that they just don't make good games, imo. As long as Nintendos game quality doesn't suffer from it, I'd say that Nintendo can live very well as a third party. I mean lets be honest here, what other really known IPs aside from Sonic does Sega even have? Nintendo has a very good amount of IPs that would do extremely well on any system as long as the games don't get worse.

This people act like Sega went to crap as SOON as they went 3rd party. Sonic's popularity stayed the same, hell it probably got bigger when they put out those great Advance games. and DS ones. VF on PS2 was the best selling one. Sega went to crap cause their games went to crap they cant stick to a Sonic formula that works. They cant commit to making Yakuza a world wide series(this boggles me) among other silly crap.

some of you really need to get over yourselves. You are not the sacred holders of anything Nintendo, please. Them having stuff on mobile wouldnt take away from anything they do regularly. The money they could make would be worth it and you could have your "pure" Nintendo. everyone wins. And no it being on mobile isnt going to take away sales from the "real" games since people buying the mobile and vice versa understand the difference.

The problem with that is opening the door. If nintendo were to release games on smartphones, they will make some big profits at first, but it is well documented mobile sucess does not equal continued growth.

What I see Nintendo doing down the road is to create a Nintendo app, where you can buy games and play them within the same app. Release VC games on it, but always keeping control of it. Put adds for wiiU and 3ds games there and keep it small.

but they are not growing now and it doesnt look like they will anytime soon. they have to do something. Cause new Smash and Zelda arent going to cut it.

See i like your idea. That makes sense. have it on mobile and have alot of control. Thats pretty good. Its better than people here just blindly saying "No mobile" like some hick conservative

The problem with mobile and Nintendo is if you ever open the door to $1-$5 Mario/Mario Kart/Pokemon on mobile, no one other than core fans are ever going to pay even $30 for those franchises ever again IMO and certainly never going to buy a seperate piece of Nintendo hardware to play them.

They'd be better off in that case just accepting a giant gaurunteed moneyhat contract from Microsoft for like X amount of dollars per year to make games for the XBox and in turn allow some Windows 9 compatibility with a future handheld.

These are dark days for Nintendo, I think they just don't have an answer for how smartphone/tablet gaming has devalued gaming.

Even Miyamoto admits he is afraid that hand-me-down tablets are taking away the kids market from them. Casual market is pretty much gone from them.

And Sony/MS pretty much have an iron lock on the male 12-35 market.

That said I'd be in favour of Nintendo seeking a partnership with one of Sony or MS exclusively (for example Nintendo perhaps agrees to support one of their consoles with games if they agree to support their handheld with games and provide some monetary kickbacks) rather than ever going to smartphone route.

I think they will try and see how Quality of Life, amiibo, and the next handheld (fusion?) does before making a rash decision though.

If this thread has proved anything. No one has an answer. Its just people saying what Nintendo shouldnt do, but not what they should. Not unlike Nintendo.

It's not a great time for the industry in general, of all the various gaming platforms, the only one really doing well is Playstation 4, and even there it's a horrible failure in Japan so far and is not going to come close to touching the PS2.

Nintendo has just been especially hard hit though.

Yes they will cause Nintendo istn putting ALL their games on mobile. Whaor? ill say it again for the 6th time. It would just be the really old games of yesteryear. not much different than what SE was doing. Your not going to see Mario Kart or Pokemon on mobile. And if you do it would be the first ones. So yes they would pay 30 for those franchises because they are still going to want to play the latest game and no something from the GB era. or hell they'll want both.

Japan aint messing with home consoles like that anymore ANYWAY. So i dont think thats in indication of anything. People still want consoles its up to the companies to figure out what KIND. Sony seems to be the only one to get it right so far.

The problem is though Nintendo skews much more towards kids and casuals. If you give that crowd the option of having those games available to them for $1 a pop, a lot of them will just say "well I already have Mario on my iPhone, why do I need to pay $50 for a new Mario game?".

I just think it's a risk Nintendo is unwilling to take because if it didn't turn out the way you say it would, then Nintendo would've effectively devalued their 30 year old franchises to $1 a pop wonders.

Or that there's really only room in the market for 1 successful console anymore. The market for the home console is basically becoming males age 12-35 who want to play big-budget games like COD, Destiny, Watch Dogs, etc. and there's not room for much else. So only 1 console is really needed for that.

Then on the bottom end you have mobile gaming which is chewing up everything else. There's no "middle" part of the market anymore, things like Rayman, even Sony's own LittleBigPlanet, and anything that isn't part of the above "blockbuster game" formula struggles to sell.

The game industry by and large is really not a great business. The hardware vendors are either losing money or making peanuts and half the developers are one flop away from bankruptcy.

can Mobile platforms just die already cause its just insane people keep suggesting Nintendo to make games for smart phones which would take away resources for making games on their own platforms
