Rol's picks:
BAL by 3, SEA by 10, GB by 7, DEN by 17.

Burek's picks:
SEA by 10
DAL by 4
BAL by 3
DEN by 11

Burek made a bold choice to change his Green Bay-Dallas pick a few hours before kickoff, on the assumption that Rol either picked the Patriots or had a home field advantage by picking the Ravens. The gamble did not pay off. Had he changed his Broncos-Colts pick though, things would have been different!

P.S. fuck the Broncos. Chocoloco, I blame you personally. You wish you were a Raiders fan!

P.P.S. Good game Zorro! I see we had largely the same picks. Great minds...

Oh right, I had DEN by 17, not 14. Really thought that Luck would commit mistakes and put the Colts into a hole that they couldn't dig themselves out anymore. What actually happened is that Denver committed a costly turnover first and then they couldn't recover from that.

So based on the initial predictions, I would have beaten Burek by a single point before my tiny HFA was applied. Talk about a close one.

ANNOUNCEMENT - Results of the Divisional Playoffs

No perfect records this week, mainly because Peyton Wheelchair Manning was already more than ready to move into his room of the retirement home. One person in bracket B had faith in Andrew Luck, but got DAL@GB wrong. Here are the results of bracket A:

# Name Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Name # HFA
16 WiiStation360 2-2/36 vs. 3-1/22 (37) Carl2291 2 15
12 noname2200 3-1/28 vs. 3-1/0 (23) Miguel_Zorro 3 24
8 Burek 1-3/42 vs. 2-2/38 (41) RolStoppable 4 3
7 Arkaign 2-2/48 vs. 3-1/26 (27) amp316 6 1

1. DAL@GB was considered the biggest toss-up this weekend and it decided this matchup. Things are still on track for the #2 seed to reach the Super Bowl for the third time in three years (different player each time).

2. For a while it looked like Miguel_Zorro would be unbeatable once again, but this time around he didn't get a perfect record in the end. So there was a chance, but it was unexpected that chocoloco's Broncos would suck so much butt.

3. I was the worst winner of the week in a matchup that included the only people to pick Baltimore.

4. The Cowbro unsurprisingly decided to lay his fate into the hands of his team and that didn't work out. Another quiet win for amp316, and with that all of the higher seeds won their matchups this week.

Conference Championships

The rules remain the same with the exception that the HFA had an additional /2 modifier right before the rounding; that's because there are only two games (GB@SEA and IND@NE) instead of four this week. I'd say everyone knows how the rest works, so let's go straight to the matchups:

# Name Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Name # HFA
6 amp316   vs.   Carl2291 2 5
4 RolStoppable   vs.   Miguel_Zorro 3 7

Bracket B

The four best losers of bracket A's wild card round joined bracket B for the divisonal playoffs due to the low level of initial participation in bracket B. Despite all eight losers of bracket A getting the notice, it was still a bit of a struggle to arrive at a set of eight players. Since FatedReality and zuvuyeay remained absent, Level1Death and burninmylight could join the bracket. Matchups were determined by the "highest remaining seed vs. lowest remaining seed" rule. The HFA rule was dropped, so it came down to record and barebones PDT; in case both of those were tied, the winner of bracket B's wild card round would advance to the next round.

# Name Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Name #
14 burninmylight 3-1/42 vs. 3-1/28 BoneArk 17
11 Level1Death 2-2/- vs. 3-1/30 Chris Hu 21
10 ljigga 2-2/43 vs. 3-1/20 NinjaBlade360 24
1 MTZehvor 3-1/25 vs. 2-2/33 IamAwsome 25

The only matchup that was close was the one between burninmylight and BoneArk. The latter won or tied on all individual predictions, so the combined victory came naturally.

Here are the matchups for the conference championships. The HFA rule does not return; the people on the right will advance to the Super Bowl in case of a tie in record and PDT. That's BoneArk because he is the higher seed in the matchup, and NinjaBlade360 because he won two playoff rounds compared to one for MTZehvor.

# Name Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Name #
21 Chris Hu   vs.   BoneArk 17
1 MTZehvor   vs.   NinjaBlade360 24

Good luck to everyone!

ANNOUNCEMENT - Bracket Predictions Update

Time to wrap up the past week and see what's happened in our season-long contest. If two or more people were tied in points, the player who predicted more teams that will play in the conference championships correctly is listed first. If that didn't break the tie, then the player who predicted more teams that played in the divisonal playoffs correctly won. The final step of the tie-breaking procedure was the number of teams that qualified for the playoffs.

What you can't see due to VGC lameness is that players who are still able to earn more points are displayed on a green background. Either hit the quote button on this post to see that, or go straight to the spreadsheet to view all stats.

WiiStation360 took the lead this week and CityOfNoobs is out of ammo. That should be it then, right? Wrong. VancelX's bracket has Seattle and New England in the Super Bowl, with New England winning the whole thing; on the other hand, WiiStation360 has only Green Bay left to appear in the Super Bowl and win it. At the current state, VancelX's prediction has quite a good chance to become true; that would tie him in points and the first step of the tie-breaking procedure is to look at who got the Super Bowl winner right, so the winner of our bracket predictions isn't decided yet.

LudicrousSpeed has reached his final score already and it will be interesting to see how the top 10 will look like in the end. The most noteworthy thing in the bottom half of the table is that Arkaign could still move into the top 15 because all of the players within two points ahead of him are either already done for or have only low chances to improve their scores. FatedReality compiled the worst complete bracket and didn't even get a third of the predictions right.

I see.

Actually, I don't know what that is. Let me look it up.

EDIT: That's the thigh thing we more or less knew about already. While that is limiting the ability to step into throws, PWM's accuracy was lacking on short throws as well, so I don't think that injury explains it all. Also, he wasn't willing to commit to playing another season after yesterday's loss, so he may very well know that there's more amiss than just his thigh.

Well, no hate or whining from me. My home team, who hasn't really had much success at all since the 90s, outperformed expectations significantly through the year and into the postseason.

They had a legitimate shot in GB, reception or no reception. A few bad breaks and bounces, and a few strategic errors really determined the outcome in the end. Even if Dez gets that TD and they get a 2pt, there are still 4 minutes left, and the Dallas D I think had already run out of gas. Perhaps the TD would have energized them a bit for one last push, but we can never know. All I know is they got a ton of disrespect and even outright hate through the year from many, and really put on a great show overall. When their plane arrived back in Dallas, a huge contingent of fans showed up to support them and say thanks for a really fun year.

NFC East should be more competitive next year. I expect NYG to improve a lot in consistency, and PHI can be a dangerous team with a few tweaks. I think Chip needs to learn to slow things down sometimes for his strategic advantage, and for the sake of his defense. The constant rush just results in constantly having your defense on the field even if you're ahead and should be trying to take time off the clock and rest your guys. More snaps = more exposure to potential injuries, and a defense that will get incredibly worn in the latter part of the season, which we saw pretty clearly.

For the remaining games, I think Seattle has to be a massive favorite to repeat. I don't really mind that, Wilson is a great human being and despite winning it all last year they are not a city that's seen a lot of success with championships, so a back to back Lombardi is well earned. I think Carroll is a solid coach, that team had a ton of turnover both on the field and on the sidelines, so it's a great job whipping them back into a top performer and weathering the uncertainty that people had about them at 3-3 early on.

The Patriots are another fundamentally solid, well-coached team. If they won it all I doubt anyone would be shocked.

GB is a fantastic home team that I don't feel confident can go on the road to Seattle and play to a physical enough level to legitimately threaten them. They just haven't traveled well this year. If the game was in GB I'd give them respectable odds, but the year has shown us that they are probably going to get mauled up there. I think Luck has a better shot at shocking the Pats than GB has of surviving the LOB. GB also showed some mental lapses during the Dallas game that spell trouble. There were a couple of WAY late hits on Romo that didn't draw flags, but were flagrant. If that happens a couple of times in the Seattle game, it WILL be called, and those 15-yard penalties can doom a team pretty quickly.

Calling the rest of the games :

Pats over Indy 38-24
Hawks over GB 27-13

Hawks over Pats 24-19 (yes, FOUR Pats FGs, lol).

GB is going to win because Lacy will be beasting, rushing for 125 yards and two TDs.

Lacy hasnt done well against top 10 run defenses all year...he killed me in my fantasy league for most of the season...
