Operating loss - 94 million
Net loss - 98 million

What do both of these mean? I'm too lazy to look it up.

Polygon, needs to burn! 2.82mil (1month) vs there 1 year prediction of i believe was 1.30mil. After they look dumb, i remember them posting MK8 will still be the worse selling MK8 >_>

Well DS final shipments is 153.99 million (no shipped in this quarter) not ever going to overtake PS2 then.

I mean... it still may be the worst selling Mario Kart. You never know.

It means they lost 94 million from gaming/business operations.

But the total net loss is 98 million as companies can also lose (or gain) money from other factors like currency flucuations or maturation of stocks/bonds or something that don't neccessarily have anything to do with the core business.

During the three months ended June 30, 2014, for “Nintendo 3DS (3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS),” titles such as “Kirby: Triple Deluxe” and “Tomodachi Life,” released in May and June respectively in the United States and Europe, gained wide popularity. As a consequence, the global sales of the “Nintendo 3DS” hardware and software reached 0.82 million units and 8.57 million units respectively.

With respect to “Wii U,” “Mario Kart 8,” released globally in May, marked 2.82 million units in sales. The worldwide sales of the“Wii U” hardware and software were 0.51 million units and 4.39 units respectively mainly due to a lack of other hit titles this quarter.

The operating loss was 9.4 billion yen (94 MILLION OPERATING LOSS) because total selling, general and administrative expenses including fixed expenses exceeded gross profit. Ordinary loss was 9.9 billion yen and net loss was 9.9 billion yen (98 MILLION NET LOSS).

The 0.82 million and 0.51 million numbers looks really bad ?!

On 3 months = 13 weeks :

3DS = 63k/week

Wii U = 39k/week

VGchartz numbers april/may/june are 1,5 mil and 0,69 mil, the difference is huge...

But I think this pretty much proves that vgchartz has been overestimating the 3DS in Europe as I've been saying for weeks.

Well it would make sense for Wii U sales to be lower in the earlier weeks of the quarter (April-early May) and then pick up to be higher than the median now.

But 3DS ... yeah. VGChartz is probably waaaaay off.

3DS is pretty worrisome for Nintendo. Wonder if they will release another 3DS revision this year, they may not have a choice.

3DS in the first half of 2013: 2.64m

3DS in the first half of 2014: 1.40m

And some people still expect it to do over 100m...

Well what can you do. Kids are jumping ship en masse to tablets/phones. Most parents will give their older tablet to their kids when buying a newer model.

Nintendo's thrown pretty much everything they possibly have at the 3DS ... 2D Mario, 3D Mario, Mario Kart 7, every Mario spin-off imaginable, Pokemon X/Y, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, a new Zelda, etc. etc.
