I can get where FFX-2 hate comes from, but it still has the best job system so far.

Even if postgame jobs did broke the balance, I still think the gameplay was one of the best.

And to directly adress the OP, FFX has the best story IMO, but I still prefer Rikku over Yuna for mostly aesthetics reason.

I agree with your first statement.

FFX-2 had a lot to offer. A good story that compliments X's, a good combat system, so many hidden gems and unlockables, New Game Plus, hidden dungeons.

People just can't get past the pop music and cosplay outfits.

And I also like Rikku, Yuna is just my fave due to reasons stated in OP. Rikku's plight is that she is like the child that keeps finding abandoned animals and wants to bring them all home. Intentions are pure, but harsh reality stands in it's way. When it comes to X-2, I might be the only person that found Paine's goth androgenous appearance more sexy than Rikku or Yuna lol.

I kinda dropped sexyness in the 2D world, and i felt like Paine was overacting all game long, so I did not like her much =/

And for Yuna, her innocence dropped from X, so she is pretty for sure, but I preferred her in X. But X-2 kinda made me love X's Yuna even more =)

You should add "that I've played" to the topic.  *edit*  Like what Nem stated, most people consider FF10 the best because they've only played PS2 RPGs and after.  They haven't played any of the better PSX RPGs or those truly great PS2 JRPGs that were mostly ignored selling 50k or less.

Final Fantasy 10-2 has the best combat in the series, which that alone makes it a good game.  If people played more than 20 minutes of it before deciding it was a bad game they'd change their opinions of it.

Ive played SNES,PS1/PS2/PS3 Era RPGs, FFX stands at the front of the line still.  FFX is still probably the best PS2 era RPG, followed closely by Persona 4 and KOTOR. PS2 era still had many others to enjoy tho, it wasn't like all the others were horrible. And I think it holds up just fine in comparison to SNES/PS1 eras. The SNES era is so far overrated due to sprite nostalgia. Only one worth a damn really from that period is Chrono Trigger (FFVI and IV are just middling for me). PS1  has FFVII and IX.......so of course that era was awesome.

TOTALLY agree with the FFX-2 statement. Many never got past the all girl cover cast. Some picked it up and started playing...got to the leblanc fight and stopped, if even. I thuroughly explored the game, I talked to Maechien, I went into the dungeons, the story was just as rich in FFX-2 as it was in X. And I don't think anyone can say for a moment the combat system was bad, they just always concentrate on "Nothing like FFX"

What does Yuna have to do with anything.

The real meat in FFX is the post-game stat maxing and that's best done with Tidus, Wakka and Rikku

I've just got to the end of the game in 38 hours (I did get distracted for a few hours when I got the airship to do some hunting, Caldabolg (I probably spent an hour on that stupid chocobo mini-game), Godhand and Attack Reels). But I know I've probably got another 80 hours if I want to do everything and beat Pennance

Wha? Yuna is insta kill switch. I walk into a Boss Fight..... Yuna Aeon.....Overkill WIN!!! She is pretty much a necessity when it comes to extra dungeon/boss content in the game. There is no one more essential. By the time I was at Via Purifico(not that far after obtaining Rikku and going to HOME) my Yuna learned Steal and Use, making her even more useful.

I am a power leveler so maybe thats why I just stomp over everything along the story (and I know the strategies like the back of my hand still).

X lacks in battle system and leveling in my view, I swap all characters in out before finishing the fight just so they get AP and then somewhat linear Sphere Grid isn't great (Currently playing with Tidus on Wakka system and Wakka on Tidus). But it's strength is it's story, character interaction and minigames/things to do. Blitzball takes up silly amount of time and can get addictive, lots of things to collect and acquire. It keeps going.

X-2 on the other hand, bad story, messy world and it crapped on the end of X so it loses all respect from me (like any extended universe of FF7 did). But it's battle system was great, traditional ATB with Class system, very fun.

Hmm, pie.

FFX was an excellent game. FFX-2? Not so much. FFX-2 had great gameplay but everything else about the game was terrible. It stomped all over FFX's legacy. It ruined Yuna's character and the story was just plain bad.

FFX, yes. FFX-2, no. Besides the combat, I hated it with a passion. A popstar, really? Come on, that's preposterous. From High priest/summoner to a popstar? Yeh, that is a completely logical transition. And you know what the game really needed? a team rocket ripoff. Holy shit, i hate those 3 morons.

I never liked Yuna as a character, I always felt she was rather bland, maybe because she is kind of reserved (as far as I remember, I'm playing FFX HD remastered as we speak) I also didn't enjoy much of the romance between Tidus and Yuna, then again, I'm not much for romantic stories.

The thing is, she's not a pop star.  Not only was it not Yuna on stage, but the one who looked like Yuna was the one who was using her garmet grid.   She also wasn't a pop star.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

I really like Final Fantasy X, but it's still a poor man's Final Fantasy XIII to me.

You don't have to do that if you don't want to. It takes about the same amount of time to just use the characters it demands you use then move on to the next battle which will alternate the set up. The Sphere Grid starts off linear but never broken, it works so well that all the FF's after it(and several other JRPGs) attempted to immitate it;Tales of Xillia,FFXII,FFXIII, etc. Being able to use all characters in battle has always been a requested feature. The thought of "why are the other 3 characters just standing on the side lines watching their teammates get pummeled?" stuck in my head, thats why it was such a godscend. FFXII perfected that by allowing you to swap out dead members too.

And it X-2 did not break continuity at all. Some of you need to refresh yourselves in this game, as it really does a good job of exbounding Spira after Sin.

And also take a peek back a few pages where I detail what is really going on in FFX-2, Yuna is NOT A POPSTAR. That was LeBlanc getting her LOLs in with Yuna's Garment Grid she stole. Yuna does sing in the thunder plains but that is Lenne's Songstress dress sphere taking hold of her to show the feuding people the kind of destruction their fighting could bring. Its such a touching moment when you think about it objectively and not in the sense of "oh yuna in a pop outfit, fan service, blah"
