Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is heterosexuality the norm?

The simplest thing is that people sympathize with what they are. Why do you think the vast majority of sci-fi or fantasy protagonists are human, even when near-humans (like Elves or pretty much any humanoid species in Star Trek) exist? Because the audience is human, and the writers are too.

Since most people are heterosexual (i think the rate's been pegged at about 93% for men and 85% for women?), they tend to sympathize with heterosexuals in the media.

you would struggle to find many who arent hetrosexual and only procreate for the purpose of creation.

This isn't true. In addition to the whole categories of animals that exhibit hermaphroditism (simultaneously, or changing between sexes sequentially), there are plenty of animals that engage in sexual behaviour for social or entertainment reasons including self-stimulation, homosexuality, and mating behaviour out of season where pregnancy is not possible.

I'll take your word for it as I was merely making an assumption :)

Bonobo (which along with chimpanzee are the closest living species to humans) are probably the randiest of all, and I think one of very few species that do it face to face.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.
