I'd like to answer your question.
It's not justified, but we don't live in a just world. We live in a world where nations will act in self-interest and will ignore moral arguments. We shouldn't be so surprised at states being hypocritical.
The international laws are only as strong as the international community makes them. It is wrong for Putin to violate Ukraine Sovereignty. It was wrong for the US to violate Iraq Sovreignty. However none of this matters if the international community does not stand up against it. I do not blame Russia for thier actions, I would blame the international community if they did nothing to prevent Russia actions. One of the real crimes of the Iraq War was that there wasn't more international pressure on the US to not enter the war. Instead we got a coalition to help us, with most assistance from the UK.
Just because the US got away with something does not give Russia the right to do the same. That opens a very scary door where the great powers do not hold eachother accountable. I could easily point out all the things Britain has gotten away with but that does not mean, every state should get to do the same. It simply just isnt a fair world.
