Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is the reason people are jumping on the PS4 hype train because 360 and Wii disappointed so much last gen?

I think its cause the last years of both the wii and 360 have been their worst years in terms of games vs the last years of the ps3s have been its greatest years

for nintendo: i think customer dissatisfaction had a lot to do with their current position. that blue ocean didn't return and it has everything to do with dissatisfaction imo. i heard a ton of complaints from more casual players that games were shallow and quickly boring.

for MS: price and value. i've never really heard dissatisfaction for anything other than live being expensive for what they got out of it but overall people were happy. ps4 is just cheaper with better hardware and better multiplats. ...and why would you pay more to get less?

I dont think it would be right to say that. If people were disappointed in said consoles then they would have had bad word of mouth and died early deaths. The 360 for example was going strong right until the Xbox One launched. The 360 was going strong for 8 Years.

What PS4 has going for it is simply extremely good publicity, while the competition have had relatively bad publicity.

Sony did everything right and "PlayStation" is the dominant brand in the videogame industry on a worldwide basis when were talking homeconsoles. What we are seeing right now is just what the brand is capable of when they dont fuck it up.

The 360 was my first MS console and I enjoyed it immensely in its first couple years, especially with all the great JRPG exclusives they had (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, etc). However, by year 4 or so the # of exclusives have really dwindled down and was basically left with Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable. I'll probably pick up a X1 if it gets a price cut and there are some cool JRPG exclusives coming for it.  For now, I'm happy with the PS4.

People are jumping on the hype train because PS3 was disappointing last gen, making it the underdog. People love underdogs.

I certainly hope that it were the last years on the PS3 in terms of games that now helps PS4 selling great numbers, cause it would validate Sony's strategy.

Otherwise we're looking at the strongest year in terms of 1st party support on the PS3 (2013) at the cost of what looks like a mediocre year for the PS4 (2014) and what could be more leveled between the platforms.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Naughty Dog and a lower price are the main reasons I got a PS4 instead of a Xbox One. I loved my Wii and my 360, but that Last of Us hype got me. Can't wait to see what Naughty Dog does with the PS4.

PS3 was the underdog? Are you nuts? Most people expected the PS3 to smash the Wii and 360

I can only imagine that people were really unhappy with both the 360 and Wii last gen. So people want the sure thing this time around. They had it with the PS2, but Microsoft and Nintendo marketing strategies somehow got them to "try" new things.

Well they are done trying new things and are going back to the king. Am I right?

Being cheaper helps a lot as well....

Plus as this last generation ended, which system had the most hype going for it? PS3. Last of Us was on everyones radar, whether they bought it or not. People saw the greatness of what the PS3  was, saw that they mostly missed it because they were playing Halo, CoD, and Gears on 360 and ....k....umm...Kirby's Epic Yarn, Endless ocean, and other shovelware treasures on the Wii ( Im just playing...and Mario).

No more mistakes! Am I right everyone?

I dont think it has much of anything to do with the mistakes microsoft and nintendo made last gen.  The reason the ps4 is doing so well is more due to the mistakes microsoft and nintendo made this gen (x1, wii u).

It was the underdog as soon as its price was announced. The years after that were marred by lack of content and general screw-ups. For most part of the last gen it was unthinkable for the PS3 to even catch up with the 360. And let's face it, despite the Cell the PS3 was always the inferior console, evident by all the worse multiplats. The exclusives are what saved it in the end but overall it was the worse product.

PS4 reversed everything and people are jumping on the train for all the years of bad press about the PS3. It's so much more fun to celebrate a system if it suddenly kicks the asses of the systems that kicked it last gen.
