Can someone tell me if my math is correct? 50k average per week x4 per month x12 = 2 mil 400,000?

well the year has 52 weeks and 50k is supposed to be the average for the non holiday weeks.

I'll go with 50/50.

It's not as doomed as people think, it's also never going to be the massive success now that other people hope.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

If Nintendo can give the WiiU strong support like they do 3DS combined with a new "phenomenon-type" game (Donkey Kong in early '80s/Mario Bros. in the mid to late 80's/Tetris in the early '90s/Pokemon in the mid to late'90s/ etc).

So far Nintendo have proved unable to do the former and it remains to be seen if the can do the latter. Also, a redesign could help (GBA to GBAsp/Nintendo DS to DSLite etc). Something less clunky and more apple-like.

In conclusion: Its unlikely, but possible.

Didnt the gamecube also sell really well during end of the year? If the wii u can get some decent numbers with mario kart 8 and and smash bros then it should be somewhere around gamecube numbers. I might be wrong though.

So far the Wii U is about 1.4m behind in the US for the same time frame.  In Japan it is about 450k behind where the Gamecube was in February 2003, though that does give the Gamecube a bit more time since it released in September.  In Other (outside of Japan and the Americas), the Wii U has shipped 1.49m in 5 quarters.  This compares to 1.86 million for the Gamecube.  The Wii U also had a more favorable release timing getting 2 holiday seasons during that period versus 1 for the GC.

As for catching up, the Gamecube had a very strong 2003 holiday season thanks to the price cut to $99.  In the US, Oct/Nov/Dec 2003 sales were 2.15m which is pretty much equal to what the Wii U has sold in the US in the past 15 months combined.  It shipped 1.25m to Other in the 6 months from July-December 2003.  In Japan it managed just over a million between where we are in Feburary and the end of the year.

Matching US Gamecube numbers is probably impossible for this year.  The other two are longshots.

150k is too much, even the 3DS can't do that at this point and it has a lot of Nintendo games and it's cheaper. I think the WiiU doesn't have enough support outside of Nintendo to reach those numbers and $250 is still high for a console that will mostly offer Nintendo games (that come out each 3 or 4 months).

So now we have 17 100% ers but not a single post advocating for that. Bloody lurkers! Join and put up or shut up!

Still that this only amounts to

I think they can sell 150K a month after games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Bayonetta 2 and other Nintendo exclusives come out but they will need another price cut to $249 and more 3rd party games to get that monthly number. I feel they need to create a revamped Wii U that doesn't require that tablet. Kinect 2.0 is considered useful by some people but I doubt barely anybody plays their games on the tablet screen for more than 10 minutes.

Certain games highly anticipated by Nintendo fans are launched, like Mario Kart 8, SSB, DKCTF and others,

exactly

by them, no one else really cares or will run out to buy a console for those games.  Those games wont change anything.

There are 52 weeks in the year so that's 2,600,000 plus the holiday boost.

My 8th gen collection

There could be a small chance right now if they advertised Tropical Freeze ON TV and not just Directs, but the sales boost wouldn't really drag out for more than a couple of weeks. Sadly, because Tropical Freeze is the best Wii U game in my opinion.

Yep.
