I edited the OP and added sales data of the Wii up until the week that PS4 will launch in Japan.
wii just exploded i dont see the ps4 doing the same it would be nice if it did..
but the wii was new and inovated and really fun because it was new ps4 is like the ps3 is like the ps2 is like the ps1 in one way or another...
wii just shot out with motion control based console from the gamecube.
The next few months will certainly be interesting to see what happens. I guess are more nextgen games come on board more people will jump.

I expect it to fall behind starting in January, and not get a shot at getting back ahead again until the end of the year. There aren't any big system sellers on the title coming until March, and none of the launch titles are going to have the heft or longevity of something like Wii Sports.
The PS4 has a chance of outselling the Wii, but it's going to be a much more gradual process.

There are regions were the PS4 is sold out till January so i think demand will stay strong for a little longer. Also i believe Driveclub is rumoured for February.
Edit: I see Driveclub is delayed to April aswell.
Theres a chance the PS3, a consoles launched at $599 will beat the wii.
I dont understand why people are questioning the PS4.
What is there to question? the price is right, we know theres going to be great exclusives like PS3 had, we know its going to get the best console version of every multiplatform game, and PS+ is more appealing than XBL.
Ps3 didnt have half those advantages and will still near 100m lifetime, PS4 will make it easily.

Thanks. Those numbers look tough for Jan-Feb. I don't see a way PS4 could easily top those without japan. It's not impossible though for it to keep the lead until Feb 22nd

I think this is more about the first 3-4 years in which the Wii sold better than any console before - after that it pretty much dropped dead though.

Of course PS4 is taking the lead. It's ahead of everything.
