One of the biggest weeks of the year, near christmas, and well, not even 300k hw sales for Wii U.

3D Flop literally flopped in Japan with a lame 100k FW (lowest 3D Mario debut ever) and in USA didn't set the charts on fire. We know that it is good, reviews, legs and blah blah. The point is, that this "3D" Mario is not generating hype and it's not moving consoles, not even in the holidays. While 3DLand+MK+Price cut helped the 3DS, SM3DWorld is even outsold by Knack in the UK. Now what?

Reality is, that Wii U will sell around GC numbers (22M) so hardware sales won't make Nintendo proud, but software can, and to do that they need games to be hyped for and gamers are willing to buy. Maybe a proper 3D Mario where we can collect stars ala 64/Sunshine/Galaxy's  can generate more hype than a mixture of 3D/2D Multiplayer Mario.

Considering Koizumi hinted another game and a soon announcement, can we expect a real 64/Sunshine/Galaxy succesor? Are we allowed to dream with it? And when DK proves it's not a system seller, can we have a new Metroid for Retro? Can we ask for it, even when we already know it will flop? Please?

Is it bad if, as a Nintendo fan, I ask for games I'm willing to buy?

I think we have enough Marios for next 2/3 years

Makes me wonder if Mario Kart will sale Wii U. Maybe there has been too much Mario titles lately. They should call it Luigi Kart and see if they can get away with it lol.

but seriously i hope Mario Kart helps the console out.

Pavo i think people would hate Nintendo if the released another mario game soon, Mario Kart would be ok but Another plattformer would be too much no matter how good. People want diversity.

at this point the saturation of Mario could be hurting the console. Want a Mario box?

This does not bode well. Even if the game have the best legs ever and reach 80M, there was no hype for it at launch and sales proves it. I'm pretty sure MK will do better, but that's because the game looks better than we expected. Which is not the same case as for 3D World.

Anyway i still think mario 3d moves consoles, it has a culminative effect though together with Other games.

Just look at Wind waker, some didnt pick it up at the beginning, but picked it up when 3d world came.

Its just Not like a big push, its more like a snowball that gradually increases with other games coming out. Mario 3D world is a great foundation

A 3D mario like Galaxy won't be a system seller. Heck Super Mario Galaxy did like 10 million while New Super Mario bros Wii did like 24 million.

A proper 2D mario has better chances to be a "system seller". A proper one of course, New Super Mario Bros U is good but it could have been WAY better.

Exactly. MK and SSB for 2014 will be enough and that's why Zelda for holiday 2014 will be their best move for this console. Still I'm expecting a real 3D Mario for holidays 2015 in the line of SMG with a big hype campain behind it.
