Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will a console less WiiU sku sell more?

What would you buy?$250 Wii U sku without console or original Wii U sku?

Wii u sku without console 5 19.23%

original Wii U sku for $150 8 30.77%

see results 13 50.00%

Total:26

Imagine two years from now Nintendo can easily make a GamePad with all the graphics, ram, etc inside of it and sell it as console and a controller for $250. Would that be something the masses would like? This would mean Nintendo has to stick with selling the Game Pad with every Wii U until then and the original Wii U console would probably be worth $150 the time this WiiU sku comes out.

This console less Wii U sku will also have blutooth so you can connect four Wii or Pro controllers to it. It's basically a tablet with buttons now that plays Nintendo home console games. What Nintendo fan wouldn't want that?

I don't think the technology is advanced enough to do that at this point

I'd buy it. I actually like the idea of it.

But then what? A Wii U without the console OR the controller? Just sell the HDMI Cable. It would be huge!

Aren't the new tablets already rivaling PS3 and 360 graphics? This is basically what this hypothetical GamePad is with buttons and controller sticks and a smaller screen.

And their cost?

Yes, but that's a tablet, not a full-fledged gaming console, and Wii U is more powerful than them, so I don't think it'll happen.

It's an interesting idea though. I mean, that new Wii SKU is basically as big as a jewel case, so it might happen.

Will be much cheaper in two years.

in order to be feasible (size wise) it would probably have to be digital download only. ..you can't really shrink the disc drive.  digital download only would turn off a lot of consumers.

I think a lot of casual gamers would ecstatic to download a Mario Kart 8 game into their GamePad and play it in their office at break just like they are ecstatic in dowloading mutliple candy crush and temple run games in the iPads and Galaxy tablets.

Will be cheaper? Well, technologie evolves very fast, and so does the price. So I don't think it's going to be cheap.
