Forums - Gaming Discussion - Predictions for the future - Xbox One, PS4, Wii U - My final thread.

1. The only console refresh that will happen is to make the console cheaper. A kinect less sku is pretty much a given as a hdd less console will not work this gen. I can see one without optical drive happening too down the line.

A premium 1TB SSD+HD hybrid console might happen too of course, but the cpu and gpu will not change. A refresh might happen with a glasses like peripheral if Occulus rift turns out to be a hit.

2. Nintendo will not release a new console in 2 years, no way. They'll still be first to launch again, end 2017 at the earliest, probably 2018.

3. Game parity by next year, erm no, won't happen this gen. There will be exceptions, even the shoddy port to ps4 but the difference in GPU power is too big to overcome.

Cloud compute to boost performance is still mostly a fantasy. Laggy lighting is about as far as the ideas have gone so far. More persistent world MMO like experiences will happen, but it's not going to do anything to help single player games. It's just too much effort to code 2 game engines for when the connection stutters. Of course there will be plenty to claim they can't work without the cloud, like Sim City 2013.

5. Please no. I'm sure I'm not the only one that plays games as a form of escapism from the world. Always connected online multiplayer experiences, all dirty words. I don't need to be constantly compared to everyone else in the world. Living breathing evolving worlds all fine, as long as I don't have to share them with L33tsh0t[XOX] etc. Nor do I like the idea much that they go on evolving without me, I'm the player, it's my world, save and exit.

I don’t understand why people keep thinking that the PS4 is going to stay stagnant and not improve over the years.

Have you had a hard life here? Many respected Video Game celebrities respect this site, such as Pachter. You should stay.
Although I would be shocked if consoles were refreshed every two years. I can barely buy one every 6-10 years. Still waiting for a PS3 to drop to 100 dollars.

Also, I think they should keep the tablet controller. Just one more thing the others do not have just yet. Plus from what I hear it is great, and from playing the ocassional Rare demo ( usually only Rayman for some reason) I love it. Plus I love the idea of playing games on the tablet while others watch Tv. They should keep it because that is their thing.

What forum are you going to now?

LMAO at these predictions.. The gap will only get wider. Every 2 years hardware refresh??? Umm no.

Cloud computing?? Yeah, no.

How do you propose x1 sales on par with PS4, without a year head start....and no price or early games advantage like 360 had?

PS4 won't improve???? It will just like PS3 and every consoel will. Worlks both ways.

Might be the worst prediction thread I have ever seen, and that is not said lightly.

Really awful predictions, I hope you come back in a few years and see how terrible they were.

1. "console refresh every 2 years" lol no, some games take 3-4 years to make.
2. The WiiU will stay longer on the market, its successor wont come out in the next 2 years.
3. This is silly and I will never understand people who claim Xbone development will get better but at the same time imply PS4 development will stand still for Xbone to catch up. The PS4 has more untapped raw power too.
4. Awful sales prediction, Xbone and PS4 will not sell the same amount in the next years. PS4 will leave the Xbone in the dust in worldwide sales.
5. No, because the average internet connection will still suck in the next decade, especially in less developed countries who especially Sony sells consoles to.

Agreed

@nightsurge

Dude those predictions are sooo bad in fact it's just as bad as saying that steambox will shit on all nextgen consoles combined sales wise LMAO. (Ok maybe not that bad but you get my point, those are some pretty horrible predicitons.)

BTW your fourth prediction will only hold true if you bump up the numbers all around for PS4/X1 while IF AND ONLY IF they drop the kinect and price it at $350.

I have to echo everyone else in saying these are pretty awful predictions. A new console every 2 years wouldn't make sense for either developers or hardware manufacturers. Nintendo won't give up on the WiiU after only 3 years. I don't see how PS4 and Xbox One are going be that close in sales. Finally, I don't get how the "Cloud" will become the next big thing in gaming. Nobody even knows what it is.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Cloud is all about remote rendering but alot of people here don't realize is that microsoft is not willing to shell out loads of money to buy that type of computing power. They underestimate how expensive cloud really is. $60 of xbox live subscription profits just won't cut it. Unless microsoft offers a subscription service for cloud rendering for $170 or so dollars yearly (Maybe even more for all I know but once new fabrication process comes into play it will get cheaper but do and note do note that it won't get cheaper by a significant margin until the end of the generation. I realize that onlive costs $120 yearly but this time they have to buy hardware that is closer to next generation in order to give a meaningful boost.), cloud won't mean a damn without the money to purchase the hardware while also maintaining is electric bills and other expenses too. Another thing to note is that while 2Mbit connection is required(Which is pretty low.) but they don't describe latencies and user experiences.
