Forums - Gaming Discussion - Phil Spencer responds to Sony's 'dig' at Gamescom

Copy and pasted from NeoGaf:

“The thing I love about the space we're in is you're always going to get feedback, whether it's on your Twitter feed, whether it's in NeoGAF, whether it's in Eurogamer,” Spencer said.

“People are going to tell you in comment threads how they feel about decisions.

“The two-way conversation we have with our customers is a strength. Certain people have tried to turn that into something that's a bad thing about what we're trying to do, and I just disagree."

Spencer explained his position: "We built a platform for gamers. Gamers invest their time and their money in the things they want to play, and they're going to invest their time in telling us what they love about the platform, and they're giving us feedback on areas where they have more critical feedback.

“That two-way conversation with gamers has to be core to who we are as a platform. And if we don't have the capability of listening and reacting to what people are saying about our platform, then we're being too disconnected from customers who make investments in our platform and the games we build.”

“The two-way conversation that we have with gamers is critical,” he said. "If we weren't able to listen then I don't think we're really creating the ecosystem that means people want to come into the platform.

"Other people will do and say what they're going to say. Fine. We're running our program. That's a strength of who we are."

hey i like tude between companies, but i think this was a classy response. plus they are making the changes most wanted, so got to give credit when credit is due. they only thing i am miffed about was they didnt give any broadcast of gamescom to show off more xbo games, i was disappointed and i think bc sony did im much more excited about the ps4, especially since i have a vita.

Nice response. Even though I would have preferred the X1 from the original presentation, it just goes to show that they listend to the gamers. And in some ways to preorders :).

I agree with him in the sense that it's better that MS have listened to what consumers want and I totally respect that. It's very much the right thing to do.

The problem I have with it is - how did they come up with this console which consumers had to make so much noise about changing in the first place? It makes all this talk about "two-way conversations" seem like it's something they've just implemented. We're listening to you now (but, we weren't going to listen to you when we started).

Still, as long as they get to the right place in the end then that's all that matters.

edit: As a side note, all this ribbing between rival companies in this sector seems so tame these days.  I definitely like it better but it's not half as entertaining.

Very good and professional response. Glad one of them kept it professional.

This begs the question then...

If they have a two-way conversation going on with the community then how did they end up making a console that was anything but what the community wanted?

That only happens when you don't listen.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Sounds humbled. Quite the turnaround.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Now lets see if they'll reduce the Xbone to $399 and/or have a Kinect-free SKU with a lower cost.

MS just screw up and let all our information including credit card in the hands of hackers and you'll be loved.
Or call us broke by telling us to get additional jobs to get X1. The internet will love you.
