I am under the impression that yes you can play online if you both have the same version. From what I gather if you don't have the same version the game just desyncs and you might as well be facing a lvl1 CPU.

Also a few features don't work online. Such as the Non pokemon swap for Pokemon Trainer and New Pork City isn't replaced by the waiting room. I think Luigi's Mansion also loads with the mansion online.

Just so everybody knows, here are some links for tomorrows Nintendo/Sony events. All of them will show you the SAME event but it will just be through a different site. Microsofts event didnt work at first on the gamespot link but worked perfectly on the Ustream link, just try them all if one doesnt work.

Nintendo starts at 9am pacific time and sony starts at 11am pacific time. If by some reason you DO miss it, fear not. It will be saved and uploaded in HD on nearly ALL of the links below.
