Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is there a danger that people are giving the PS4 too much of a free pass?

In regards to EA, I think that they're waiting to see whether people accept always online and the blocking of used games and will adjust their support accordingly based on how well the Xbox One and PS4 perform. For arguments sake, let's say that Microsoft does take the entertainment-oriented and blocking of used games approach and Sony decides to take the opposite (gaming-centric, no blocking of used games), and despite gamers not liking Microsoft's approach, the Xbox One manages to sell extremely well; I imagine in this example, EA would probably throw more support behind Microsoft, as well as attempt to encourage Sony to follow suit (or else withhold support).

In contrast, if gamers really stick to their guns and do not support the blocking of used games, and the PS4 really takes off instead of the Xbox One, I imagine EA will probably remain more multiplatform in their support, and start working on the next way to minimize used gaming. While Sony does value third-party support, third-parties also value Sony consumers, so I definitely do not think the relationship between third-parties and Sony is as unilateral as people are trying to make it seem.

I think in all cases it's fair to expect that until everything is fully disclosed that people reserve their judgement.

So giving Sony a free pass and bashing on MS for enforcing DRM and online passes is eager atm. I'd be glad if people didn't and learned to be fair.

I don't think there's any danger i trust them Sony will deliver, and think this is a good thing it's good for Sony considering all the shit they have been through this gen.

Its simply the fact that whatever Sony has shown so far has been mostly positive and people are focusing on that. On the other hand MS's conference and post show contained mostly negative stuff.

It is possible that Sony has been stacking all the negative stuff for later but there's no reason for people to think negatively of a system if nothing bad has been shown. If Sony do unveil some bad stuff, they will get backlash for it. I think they know this as well seeing the craziness that ensued after MS's conference.

That right there is my concern

But I suppose this is quite true

I'm with you.

While it isn't unanimous, I have seen too many people saying "FUCK MS I'M GETTING A PS4" already. People just assuming that Sony won't do anything stupid either, or that they've got it in the bag. But we don't know what Sony is going to do, and there's no reason to assume that they won't take a similar tack.

But that's still just an assumption. We know far more about what MS is doing. And facts are more justifiable to worry about than assumptions. Still, we need to wait and see what happens.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

Sony always gets a free pass from their fans.
2006 motion controls are going to ruin the industry
2008 Sony announces Move
60 seconds after Move announcement. OMG motion controls are hardcore
Nintendo brings touchscreens to gaming. OMG tochscreens are for casuals
VIta shows to have a touchscreen. IMG touchscreens are hardcore
Wii U has touchpad. Its useless. PS4 has a tiny touchpad that is useless. Gretest hardcore advancement of the last decade.
Just wait til Sony announces a used game policy similar to MS and watch them give Sony a free pass.

And the MS fans not raising their eyebrows at MS...?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I think the idea that one fanbase is more forgiving than the other is silly.

Mmh..People should remember how PS3 was on launch.

I thought it was just me. I find it hilarious, no one is giving SOny a free pass on anything because there is nothing to give a free pass about. THe big issue is no backward compatablity which fans have not giving a free pass one( at least not me). But MS confirmed things like DRM and limting used games, which people generally hate. If anything ive seen more people trying to downplay that than anything else. SOny has NOT addressed those issues so we cant assume they will follow suit or not, until then. No one will talk about htat cause there is nothing to talk about. Innocent till proven guitly

Theres every reason to assume it... There is no evidence to suggest it. There is no reason to assume they will follow suit,
