What do you mean by that?

FPS tests a persons reflex abilities. Its about timing, aim and quick thought process. Some people think faster than others under pressure. In games like battlefield its about formation and everyone fulfilling certain duties to capture flags and thus.

JRPG's test your strategy (battle style, character choice, cpu tractical plan, HP& MP counting, Specials attacks and ) inventory (potions use, mixture, weapon changes and upgrades, buffs which are numerous ), fantasy games unique to the world you're in.

Theres just a lot of crap.

I agree with FPS reflex abilities and whatnot but disagree with the rest.

Virtually every game can "test your strategy" but in the vast majority you don't need to (and most people don't) use strategy to play or beat them them. I'd say on the hardest difficulties for both genres JRPG's will need to have more strategy (however that can easily be combated by online play in a FPS which could employ a large amount of strategy by you and your teammates).

I would say most games have the potential use of strategy in them.

A lot of modern games are also taking from RPG's. Almost every action, FPS game today is a semi RPG, but their depth is simple. All games have strategy because everyone goes about things differently to get the job done. On a personal level RPG's whether WRPG or JRPG allow for that to happen more, but JRPG's just test the mind more. Even when the Japanese develop western style RPG's they are still harder than when westerners make RPG's themselves.

I am in total agreement that strategy is involved, I am just talking about the degree. JRPG's flex the mental noodle and they keep you going with fantastical, and sometmes emotional stories.

What western RPGs have they made? I'm curious now.

Demon Souls, Dark Souls & Dragons Dogma? Catherine was harder than most western puzzle games I've played as well.

I didn't know that the first three were made by Japanese devs.

As much as I love them, they all play pretty much the same way,but with a different coat of paint.

The best genre going, especially sci-fi (Half Life, Halo) and looking glass style (Deus Ex, Bioshock, Dishonored)

Software made the Demon Souls  game in conjunction with Sony Japan Studios. Dark Souls was made by Software themselves. They are known for making Armored Core. Capcom devloped Dragons Dogma in-house.

I like them but the military shooters Call of Duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honour are over done now. I perfer the sci-fi and action adventure ones far more. Games like Far Cry 3, Bulletstorm and Bioshock Infinite put some fresh air into an otherwise over done genre

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

'When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called the people's stick'- Mikhail Bakunin

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

I'm not a big fan myself, I like fps that are not based around wars like cod, I like when there's a concept to it like Zombi U or the Aliens Colonial Marines game, military fps are becoming like FIFA and madden games with an annual release, I wouldn't mind them as much if it wasn't for this, Although I do like Halo. Im more into platformers, racing games, Action Adventure and RPG's

I´m ok with FPS, but no one can deny that the market is oversaturated with them.
There´s just too many shooters. Most games today are just about shooting and shooting. And for me this have got old already.

I love them if they're done right, like Call of Duty 4.

The genre has been done to death though, and it seems no developers have anything drastically new or different to offer.

I can agree with that. I think the general Japanese culture is why their games test your strategizing moreso than Western games (one could bring up the new FF games which don't have an ounce of strategy if you just use the auto attack button but the phase shifts and everything else can allow for a stratagized attempt at the game). Honestly I would say that the average Japanese person has a slightly higher IQ than the average Westerner because of Japanese culture always pushing someone to be better. I would say that their culture in leads to games that are harder on average or have the ability to test one's strategy.
