Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which specific game defines you as a hardcore game?

Tagged games:

Final Fantasy Tactics at 100%. Twice.

Hundreds of hours played in Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

I think those are the games that define me as a player. I love turn-based games where I have time to consider my best strategy against a difficult opponent. That's why I love chess, as well. I also love games which have all these difficult hidden characters, items, and abilities that you have to really try hard to uncover. Likewise, FPS games like Fallout 3/NV are some of my favorites because they allow you to use your own tactics, with your own character build. I dearly love building a sniper/stealthy character and taking out Deathclaws when I'm under-leveled.

I think the other thing that defines me as a player is how deep into crafting and money-making I get with MMOs. I got quite wealthy in Ragnarok Online (though not compared to the botters), and quite wealthy in WoW and the last Star Wars MMO. That's something I really like to do, though most MMOs ruin crafting by making it something only raiders can really profit from. Screw that.

I have played Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Melee for around thousand hours each, does that count?

I play quite a bit of games hardcore through out the years but the stand outs are....

Street Fighter and Both Devil May Cry Series

Im a Tourney SF 2, Alpha and 4 player.... Unfortunatly not 3 :( even though i love 3

I also play MVC, Tekken and KOF

I have 100% complete beating on all difficulties and bloody palace in all DMC games from 1-4 (yes even 2.....) and DmC with SSS rankings

back in my prime i even beat DMC3 on DWD mode which is a fan made up mode where you played DMD (the highest difficulty) from a new game (meaning you start the game from scratch with out new game plus)

As for RPGs

i played the Suikoden series from 1-3 pretty hardcore back in the day collecting all 108 characters in all games....haven't bothered with the new Suikoden games though.

Sounds hardcore to me. I use to love fighters as well, and think I was last competitive with Soul Calibur. I was a demon in that game when using Mitsurugi and Siegfried - ah the memories. Anyways, life happened and I found it difficult to maintain that level of competitiveness and have a family life and a gaming life outside of fighting games. I was awesome in Tekken 3 as well and loved CvS 2

i was not to shabby at Soul Cal myself :P however i wont say im that great at the game...it was all about kilk and XiangHua for me :)

But i know what you mean about life lol. Im in my last year for classical and computer animation for film or video games and i havent had the time to really play games. TBH most of my acheivements i said above were pre 2011, execpt DmC. (i just love the dmc series so much i couldn't resist :P) However i did play SF4 at a small tournament a month ago, im not as good as i used to be (Alittle rusty) but i still got it :)

Although my fav genre is RPG, my moderately hardcore nature is defined not only by Deus Ex, Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment and probably other RPG classics I'll play in the future (The Witcher is a good candidate to this role), but also by some non-RPG classics like Thief II, Myth II, Duke Nukem 3D, Syndicate Wars and Grand Prix Legends.

That's dedication, I did that for Vanquish, but I think DMC 1-3 is harder to 100%.

OOT - 100 skulls pain in the ass

LOL, I got 98, but 2 are in random trees, and the Nintendo Power Strategy guide doesn't tell you that, so I gave up looking. That was a good game.

I always did game, from a very young age. But I don't think I really thought gaming was more than just a fun time I was having as a kid until I played Final Fantasy VII. It really blew me away and transformed what and how I felt about the medium. It provided something Sonic and Mario never really did and opened my eyes to the level of expression games could have and the industry behind it as I started to pay attention to it. Maybe I was just getting older and more aware but I felt that game was a seminal turning point for me.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Oh, good question. Tough one though. It is really hard to define myself by just one game. If I had to narrow it down, maybe Metroid Prime or The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
