Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD attach ratios

Come on, they are not amateurs and they have with a large gap the highest coverage and they are doing this job since 1985...

And they were off in December. It can happen. I believe it happened the last time we got shipment numbers as well.  They messed up somewhere.  The question is... where and why?

Look at how far off other proffesional trackers can be.

Like Mediacrate and Famitsu. Who are also proffesionals who end up dancing around each other often times beign way off each other.

Nobody is saying they are amateurs. However they aren't free from scrutiny either. There is a changing demographic in the video game industry and their models may need some tweaking to account for it.

back to the topic - i hope this helps quiet the "wii doesn't sell games" stereotype a bit. i guess people will just hide behind the "wii can't sell third party games" for a while but that should change as third parties start bringing out their wii A-game to the market.

I still think that overall console attach rates are a worthless number. Just as worthless if you look at monthly console sales versus monthly software sales.

Then perhaps we would look at total number of software sold in the first 13-14 months instead of attach rates?

Through its first 14 months, the 360 sold about 23 million peices of software. Far shy of Wii's 34 million.

That paints a pretty clear picture for me. I know exactly how this gen is going to end up. It doesnt even seem to matter that the 360's lineup was far superior, and that the Wii comes PACKED IN with a killer app which can easily stunt sales. It STILL vastly outpaced the 360's start.

 Sure, that's a useful number.

I also like monthly software sales divided by total user base, but I've never seen anybody use that number outside of this site.

I think NPD under tracked Nintendo because their models are wrong for Walmart and TRU. Walmart is probably the largest Nintendo dealer with TRU not too far behind.

Could you post what their models are for Walmart and TRU  I didn't know NPD released information like that.  Thanks.

was it 8 games for every wii during christmas or the wii's lifetime?
