Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD attach ratios

Matt Casamassina posted the attach rates for the different consoles in the US.

Dec 2007

LTD

Xbox 360

7.76

7.00

Wii

8.11

4.64

PS3

5.04

4.26

Xbox 360 has a very nice attach rate, but Wii is doing pretty well too considering the quickly growing userbase.

Yeah Install base is going to be a lot harder for the wii to have similar to 360 attach rations LTD when the 360 has a much larger "average months owned".

PS3's attach ratio isn't horrible either... not great considering it also has higher "average months owned" per system... but not horrid.

Only concern is that the multiplat games are outperforming the exclusive games.

Pretty impressive December for the Wii. I know that number includes Wii Play but what about budget titles? I guess it's fair to compare a $29.99 game to a $59.99 one though since it's still a game sale afterall. Anyone know if they also break it down by revenue?

wasn't NPD just proven wrong?  can we trust any of their numbers?

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

hmmm....it would be cool to keep track of this for a while--i mean its christmas so that might have had an effect

You do know the 360 has several official 29.99 games as well right?

As well as many 360 games unoficially marked down to around that level by retailers.

It just wasn't for Decemeber... as it appears that VGchartz was closer compared to Nintendo's shipped data. See the latest news post by Ioi for info.

These things happen though.  So it's not like you can't not trust their numbers.  Just realize that they arn't 100% accurate and every once in a while Vgchartz is going to get closer then them even with less sources.

I think NPD under tracked Nintendo because their models are wrong for Walmart and TRU. Walmart is probably the largest Nintendo dealer with TRU not too far behind.

Come on, they are not amateurs and they have with a large gap the highest coverage and they are doing this job since 1985...
