Color me excited for what is to come then, cuz that sounds AWESOME!!!! The head mount thing interests me, it is only furthering this "dual screen" revolution started by tablets and smartphones. It is a slightly different direction but can possibly prove very lucrative.

Are we talkin....

or...

? Obviously if its like the Mass Effect one it will not be halographic rather some kind of screened eye patch like MGS4's. Would be super bad ass!

Now the price points bring me to hesitate a little. I think $450 is what they should shoot for. The idea of always being able to access everything Playstation is VERY tantalizing. I told myself I would not be jumping into next gen right of the bat this go around....this might turn me into a liar if the 1st Gen games are also on point. If the console is to really debut next Christmas what does this really mean for PS3's AAA titles next year? The Last of Us and Beyond are looking very big budget, lets not forget the infamous Last Guardian and FFVersXIII that have been in limbo forever. Will they be making that rumored jump? So many questions. Getting excited lol

Man if they came out with a special big boss version. I would gladly spend 600$ on a system.

also, please god don't let them call it the "Omni", sounds stupid. Orbis actually sound far more pleasing on the ears. Playstation Orbis

Well, according to the rumor, you won't need a 3d tv. The glasses will be able to do that on any tv.

Not disputing the rumor, just saying that 3D tvs 9at least here) are comparible in price. So if 3D was going to take of it would have done so already.

As for the future of 3D, I am not sure how it will go to be honest. I know many people have gotten sick of 3D movies and growth has probably stalled, but at the same time there is a reasonable size of people who enjoy it. It probably explains why this omni viewer will be an addon and not packed with the console as those who want it can spend the extra cash, those who dont care can game the old fashion way.

I'm still not %100 convinced that the PS4/Omni and the ValveSteamBox aren't the same thing. Pretty sure they wouldn't be - but with the Valve economist leak and this happeneing a few days apart - I'm not so sure.

Did you read my post in that thread?

EVen in one of my posts above, I linked to a thread I made 3 months ago about sony and steam teaming up.

Pretty sure this is happening. And I'm so pumped.

Probably - I've heard plenty of people saying it on various forums for a while now.

The only thing that makes me doubtful is Valve's pride in their independence - they've apparently resisted many buyout offers, and their criticism of the Windows 8 mobile marketplace's "walled garden" - and this being one of the primary reasons they're looking into their own Linux box - it would seem contradictory for their "freedom" to be gained by partnering with another "walled garden" of PSN/SEN. Ditto I couldn't see Sony thinking "we'll just leave online gaming delivery/sales to these Steam fellas" and cut off/share a revenue stream we've been investing hundreds of millions into (Gaikai purchase).

Slightly differently - I'm sure streaming games/Gaikai will be first utilised by offering a wide library of PS1/PS2 (and maybe some PS3) streaming titles for a subscription fee - maybe even included as part of PSN+. Streaming BC could also be the primary PSN+ offering when the Omni launches - as publishers won't be wanting to give away games when they're brand new, and Sony would want to be able to offer value for PSN+ subscriptions from day 1 to make the service attractive/subscribe more users.

Sony is near the middle end part of their Project Orbis, their next generation PS4. It will not be called Playstation 4, teams have started to call the final name as Omni. Omni will reflect their new hardware and content delivery philosophy. Omni will be “very capable” of doing modern day graphics compared to a Direct X 11 level of technology like Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite 2. Compared to Wii U, it is better, but not the biggest leap in the world according to developer friends of mine. The key is the Omniviewer, a thin, lite and slick head mounted autosteroptic display that can track the users head and presents a 360 image view with semi transparent AMOLED screens. This can turn any TV into a 3D TV, as well as add extra augmented reality information outside of the TV screen. One application from an entertainment perspective seeing movies in 2k, 4k or IMAX resolutions as their original size where you have to move your head to look at the full picture being displayed. Can also synch with the Vita. The new controllers weather it’s the Duo-Moves or the Classic DuoShock will have pulse sensors in the grips for biofeedback gameplay. Plans are a Basic Unit with 160 gigs and just the system with controller at $350-$399 and one with the Omniviewer and a pack-in game for $450-$499. Aims are for a September 2013 launch.

– Omni is also part of their philosophy with the new OmniCloud, the new version of Gaktai. This service will not only cloud stream PS1, PS2 and select PS3 games to Playstation Certified devices but will also allow every digital and retail purchase to have access to a copy on the cloud. Basically, you buy one game, you can use it on any Plyastation device. Direct hardware Backwards Compatibility will be available by a $70 – $99 dongle that is plugged into the Omni that contains a PS3 on a chip with Cell to run games.

If this ends up being true and the Omni is closer in power to the Wiiu than the Nextbox do you guys think that games will be made basically for the omni cuz it is the middle system and then ported down to wiiu and up to xbox?

Ditto this sir. I personally think.....if Sony is to get this Head mount to actually take...it needs to be made standard with EVERY console sold. The teirs thing has adverse effects that don't become apparent till later down the line. THey cannot treat it like a peripheral(like the Eye Toy) which isn't necessary for getting the full experience. I think where Kinect and Wii got it right is that they gave the impression that you HAD to have them in order to enjoy the system later on where as Sony's approach has always been the Move was a possible option but not required. For their sake, just make the one version with the headset. This could truely revolutionize the way we see gaming as well as interact with media. We have slowly been getting closer to Minority Report status and I think this is the next step.

I think Sony is done trying to be Market Leader as far as Graphics are concerned. The arms race they had with 360 almost destroyed them. This time I think they are going the more Wii approach, simply do what the others don't/can't. I'm thinking the Orbis and X3ox will actually be identical in graphical power, but far greater than WiiU's(which is barely above current, far better than Wii).

With that being said, The middle child might get first pick for Multiplat titles. Remember, PS2 was the middle child of that era. Being the mid teir powered console has the benefit of not being the most costly(usually), yet still maintaining competitive edge. The common consumer wants the newest craze, but what the get the most affordable yet still similar to the top brand. Think of Google's taking over of the App Market, something Apple started. Apple is the top brand, but for the closest experience you can get to it without paying Apple price has to be Google Android.

Yeah I don't mind at all if Sony is less powerfull than nextbox but to be 2 or 3 times behind would kind of suck. They need to be atleast within 50% or so in terms of power and these machines need to quadrouple the wiiu. I'm rooting for Sony on this one. If these rumors are true they have the coolest "gimmick" with the omni glasses..  much  more interesting then kinect and slighly more interesting than wiiu tablet.

1 person only?

It's like a helmet... so 1 person per helmet... if you need buy more.

PS. There is no way the new PlayStation is to named anything else than PS4.

well, in Japan they wont have that name, unless they want a console to be named "PlayStation Death".

There is  a Resident Evil 4 in Japan, and it sold well so.....there's also a Yakuza 4..etc.
Whatever this supersition was, Japan seems to have gotten over it.

You have a really good point there.  I forgot games with a 4 existed in Japan XD

They should make this upcoming console their final console.. so they should pack in some good technology..

but launch at $399

Why on earth would this be anybody's final console?? That won't happen for some time. We'll need more power again 8 years from now when we all have 4k tv's in the home and don't have internet connections that can stream uncompressed 4k streaming games.
