Well, that's not completely true. The base story of VII was his, he also was the battle director of both VII and VIII.

He didn't ruin anything really. A quick look at the most hated FF games (X-2, XII, XIII, XIII-2) we'll find that he did nothing more than the characters design in X-2, XIII, XIII-2, and did absolutely nothing in XII (which explain forgettable characters). Nomura works are always well-received by the fans. The hate usually comes from XII die-hard fans who goes like "Open World FTW !!" :p.

I must say that over the years, nomura has become a shit designer.
However, it is his throwback to almost pre-viii design that gets me wet for versus.
It was like, 8 had zell. Then 10 years later, all nomura designs look like zell.

If I'm not wrong the FFVII's story was Nomura who created.

Just the lastest FF game he only did work with character design.

He just worked as a Graphic Director for FF VI. For FF VII he did work on the story, but beyond that the only FF he's doing the story for is Versus XIII. He worked as the Creative Producer for Crisis Core and Type-0, so he can recommend changes/additions and help the director with the script but it wasn't him who did the stories in the end. He doesn't have as much pull when it comes to a lot of FF's stories like people think. Especially those who think he single-handedly ruined them. Lol.
