The only thing those things have in common is the FF brand on the box.

There will be other RPGs to look forward to;  Tales of Graces F, Tales of Xilila, Ni No Kuni, maybe Dark Souls 2.

And i have a secret fantasy every day that Sony will one day announce Legend of Dragoon 2. Legend of Dragoon has been a great success on the PS network. I hope this encourges Sony to do it. Its one of the few IPs that Microsoft and NIntendo have nothing to compete with.

And it was unfortunate that it was competing with the exclusive FF8 at the time. there was no way LOD could compete with that. Now the FF brand is weakend, i think LOD would be very successful. Anyway this is off topic, point is there are other RPGs, and FF15 might just supprise us!

I personally don't really like the 'Tales of' series but you're right about Ni No Kuni.

Still, the Dragon Quest series has gone haywire thanks to SE again and the Persona series is nowhere to be found.

What's left for turn-based JRPGs on consoles? Not much outside of very niche titles that fill the deepest holes but hardly to the brim.

The persona series is also starting to go downhill: 

Yeah it's worrying but at least it wasn't made by the Persona team. All I'm hoping is that Persona 5 doesn't end up on the Vita.

I hope it does come on the Vita. Persona 4 golden sold amazingly on the Vita so persona 5 will definintly be on the vita

But if it comes out on the Vita first then where will it be ported for quick money like Persona 3 and 4 were?

I mean I really do believe the smartest move would be to make it for the PS3 (and perhaps the 360) despite higher development cost and development time and then port it on the Vita in a couple of years. That sounds to me like the best way to make the most money in the end.

Final Fantasy XV sounds brillaint. The scale and freedom of FFXII but with a better battle system which doesn't allow the game to play itself.

I simply don't believe the series need another FFXII right now. FFXIII/FFXIII-2 and FFXIV left many fans disappointed and I think the way to satisfy them back is to make a game similar to what made them fall in love with the franchise to begin with: turn-based gameplay!

Just a rumor, if their able to put out a FFXIII-2 then surely they'd give the one and only game that always had potential a chance.

Will be really disappointed if this is true. Versus XIII was my final hope that Squeenix could do something right these days, and to see it get cancelled is a huge mis-fire. If it gets re-tooled as FF XV I could put up with it I think, but honestly I want to see this game in the next year or two - I'm sick of waiting.

I also want Nomura to stay at the helm of at least one FF game. I know everyone loves him for Kingdom Hearts these days, but still.

Alternatively they could just make a brilliant game, something which neither XIII/XIII-2 were. The fact is the franchise will not survive by simply trying to conpensate disenfranchised fans, a decade has passed since X, an entire new generations gamers now dominate the market. I'm not saying it shoudn't be turn based but what ever the combat system ends up being, it should be born of the desire to provide the compelling experience as opposed to a desire to provide nostalgia.
