before: you finish the game you unlock a new mode or a new guy
now: you finish the game you get 100 useless points or a silver trophy and get to unlock the new mode or guy via paid dlc

Hey now theres lots of unlockables still today that appear when you beat the game along with the Trophy/Achievement.

I would reserve that for Sales going up on all sides. (Except Sony of course...) It's always a good thing to do better than your last generation and Nintendo + Microsoft both did just that.

What has that got to do with anything? It is nearly impossible to top the ps2 no matter what company you are. It wasn't hard for nintendo or microsoft to do better than last generation in sales seen as the ps2 made a fool out of both of them.
Plus you wouldnt know what it is like to get an xbox achievement or a ps3 trophy.

OT: They are not the greatest thing to happen to gaming but they are a great step. I get so much longevity out of games now thanks to trophies because I am more of a single player gamer.

Wow, you always like to go after me don't you?

He asked if Trophies were the best thing to happen to games this gen, I said no and put what I thought. What I thought I would think would be the best things that happened to gaming this generation.

no there not b/c only a few games have good list, all the other games that force you to grind boost are a ocd gamers nightmare, and even the games that have nice lists once you %100 you forget about it shortly after, theres no real prize or gratification for ach. and trophies

No. HD, online, DLC touch and motion controls are all more important. But, they are cool...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Well not the best but it will be a reason for millions to get the next xbox/PS because they don't want to lose their progress. Having a few millions addicted achievement/trophies whore is certainly not bad for MS/Sony.
