What's with the rumored spring '13 release? I find that hard to believe... you'd think they'd want to hold it back a bit longer and instead have it ready for the launch of the next-gen consoles in late '13 / early '14.

I can't see how they can improve on Crysis 2's visuals much between now and then while keeping the game on current gen consoles, and this is a franchise and company that is known for pushing cutting-edge graphics. Crysis 3 as a launch title for 720 / PS4 would make the game an instant killer-app just for its visuals alone.

I think they want to quickly cash in on the work they did getting 2 onto current consoles, which is also why it is apparently still in NYC so they can recycle the work they did on 2.

You have to remember the CEO of Crytek was expecting that by releasing the seccond game on consoles they were going to get 3x the sales of the first. And went on reccord saying they expected to sell 7+ million units total for Crysis 2, even if that was just hype I can't imagine they were expecting anything less than 5 million. Last time sales were mentioned officially it was at 3+ million shipped and VGChartz currently has it at 1.1m 360, 0.95 PS3 and 0.52 PC so even with arround 400k PC digital it is unlikely they have since shipped much more than the 3 million. Meaning that Crysis 2 missed it's sales targets by a mile.

Seems kind of soon imo. I won't expect much but curious to see what Crytek can bring.

Exactly.  Which is why I think they'd be better off if they held off until the next gen arrives, because even after all the hype Crysis 2 was pretty underwhelming, both in terms of sales and the game itself.  I don't see how 3 can do any better, being that it'll be so late in this console gen, not to mention it'll probably get lost in the post-holiday shuffle like its predecessor did last year.  With some really big titles coming out this holiday season (not to mention the launch of the Wii U), and GTAV rumored for a spring '13 release as well, how can they honestly expect Crysis 3 to do any better than 2 did?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I don't think they expect it to do much if any better TBH, like I said this looks like a quick way to make use of the work they have already done. Same setting, same engine etc means they can turn it arround quickly (2 years vs 3 for Crysis 2). Also I wouldn't be surprised to see a Crysis 3 trailer at Nintendo's presser at E3. I mean it's not like Crysis 2 would have actually lost money, just not been the hit they expected.

For next gen they have Ryse, Homefront 2, and also likely a WARFACE port. Then they can use Crysis 4 to push their tailored to next gen hardware Cryengine 4 in 2015/16 when the install base is built up a bit.

It's too soon. If this is true then they are well on they're way to over-playing their hand. The IP will become worthless.

Still running CryEngine 3? That's a disappointment.

they will be using Cryengine 3 for another 2-3 years at least, and Cryengine 4 will likely just be an updated 3 anyway. Making a world class cross platform game engine is a multimillion$ investment these days. Hell Unreal engine 3 has been in use for over 6 years.

BTW you were joking with that post right?

Half. It was more that I wish they wouldn't push out the series at this speed. Crysis' selling point is its graphical attractiveness.

what if it had the character models shown in this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KuNw8bjDwc

Cryengine has a lot to give in terms of visuals, if they do DX11 right this time round it could look amazing on PC.
