Forums - Gaming Discussion - Most Overrated Series?**UPDATE**

Torillian said:

Well I base these things off of meta, so if I can add a qualifier to my answer I'd go with Console Zelda games. I've played most of them and there are very few games that deserve to have a meta of mid 9's. and I heavily disagree with console zelda's being an average of 9.6-9.7 in meta. It's ludicrous, there are obviously some games in the series that are better than others but the meta doesn't show it.

I'm sure some people won't like the idea, but it's like saying Zelda is a bad series, but it's not a 9.6 average series.  Atleast on Console, for whatever reason the handheld Zeldas are more reasonable and varied for scores.

Totally agree with the console Zelda games. They would all get a low to mid 80s score if I were to rate them.

Furthermore: LittleBigPlanet (also low 80s), Sonic (The original ones. Maybe it's because I haven't played them back then, but mid 70s at most), Team ICO games.

Halo!

Halo is THE most overrated series in the history of gaming

This one's easy:

Metal Gear. The same thing over and over again, yet no one complains. Not a bad series, but overrated.

It's difficult to have an opinion on overrated series. My common sense tells me that if you try out one game of a series and don't like it, you're hardly going to buy another games of the specific series...

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Around the Network

- MGS: pain in the ass videos, installation times between chapters (What the hell were they thinking?!)

- God of War: Buttonsmashing till the end. You might beat the game, but you will lose a controller afterwards. Meh story, nothing exciting to me.

- Bioshock: It is just a slow shooter to me.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

call of duty for me.

halo i dont mind. it isnt the greatest series but fun as it replaced my starseige tribes fix.

While I think they all have merits and are good games in many aspects, I find the following series to be overrated in terms of how good they really are both gameplay and/or narrative as appropriate:

Metal Gear Solid
Mass Effect
Bioshock
Halo

Now I don't mean they suck, they certainly don't. But overall I believe each is given more addoration and hype than their true content really warrants.

Mass Effect in particular I don't get. The first was a solid RPG with terrible gameplay and GUI design, poor code optimization and a second rate (at best) plot nabbed from much better SF novels. ME2 was better I felt and ME3 looks like it might be another improvement, but the core of the titles has always felt weak to me particularly the gameplay which is essentially average to poor combat or ancient go/do/return quests with a half assed morality aspect that frequently makes no sense.

I mean it's okay - I've got ME3 on pre-order it's not awful. But the game for me has never remotely approached the hype/reviews and I always find myself in clunky combat running with stiff animation and no jump ability on some weak mission thinking - this is the cream of the crop available for narrative driven SF TPS/RPG?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Nintendo: Pokemon.
Really, I never, ever found the appeal.
Bland artstyle, average music, boring battle system, bad design and nonexistant story all mixed up for a game I had to give up on 3/4 of the main story.

Non-Nintendo: Fifa/Madden/NBA/Sport Games
I just.... zzzzzz... they are incredibly boring, I can't even play for 5 minutes.

Assassins Creed
COD
Halo
Infamous

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.
