I had meant to break that up a bit more ^^;;; I was going to say the big decline of hardcore titles happened with the PS2, much like I think a decline of Casual titles will happen to the Wii, if the market shifts too fast, we get into saturation, there might be too many people eager to "cash in" on the wii's sucess and "inferior" technology for "cheap" games. My bad, my grammars off sometimes ^^;;;

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

That's why the Wii won't get their full support - because a cinematic experience is important to them, and they *hope* there's still a market for it.

They're not hoping there is still a market for their game type.  There is a market for their game type, and it's big enough to sustain FFXIII.  What they hope for is that the market will change back: that the relatively shrinking share of gamers who want the cinematic game experience will not continue its decline.  They hope the market will reverse itself and their games will significantly increase in popularity.

It's not like Square has to deal with a lack of poplularity or support, but as the market evolves they're moving from one of the big forces out to the fringes a little more.  They're hoping that will reverse itself.

 Understood.

There were a lot of similar comments made by Square Enix about the DS versus the PSP when the 2 handhelds were first released. Looking at their release lists on the systems now though that seems like a joke.

"SE Wada speaks out of his ass again"

There; fixed.

Are we looking at a catch 22. Square is damned either way they go. They turn their games into casual tripe, and they will get lambasted by fans for feeding them garbage. They stick to their guns and support traditional high quality gaming with depth, and they are labeled anti Nintendo. They are merely being attacked for being Square no matter where they go it must be wrong right.

I think their is an inferiority complex driven lust at play in many posters. They desperately want the high end experience on the Wii. On the other hand they themselves realize that only casual gaming with have stratospheric success on the console. The developers are not being stupid. They are being realistic.

Your simply not going to be finding certain gaming experiences on the Wii. That is something you have to come to terms with. These contradictory concepts are moronic. You cannot scream at a developer that excels at core and hardcore games to make their future games casual. Then expect to get the old school experience you seem to be wanting. Thats not going to happen they are mutually exclusive.

I think some posters need to sit long and hard, and think about what they are actually looking for in a console. No your not going to get Final Fantasy XIII on the Wii. Your not going to get Halo 3 either. Owning and playing a Wii exclusively comes with a price tag in that your not going to find real high end gaming there. A fatal flaw as it were like Microsoft's brand name, or the price tag on the PS3. You can't have your cake and eat it to.

Yup, because Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil UC, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Lego Star Wars, Red Steel, etc all failed miserably.

I agree that on the Wii you cannot have every single experience; but the one the Wii won't get is not hardcore games like FFXIII, it's extremely high-budget audio visual blockbusters like Assassin's Creed or Metal Gear Solid (although the latter has exceptional gameplay and scenario as well)

Dodece, I commend you for sticking to your guns... Wait, actually I don't. You have been around this forum long enough to learn that an argument like that just isn't worth writing anymore. There was a time when it could have made sense (as in "mmmm that's possible"), but now, the only reaction it warrants is "eh, these false FUDish claims again?".

There are more than enough good "hardcore" Wii games to prove that any good game will sell on the Wii (provided it has decent marketing, or in some cases even without it). Even Capcom has already shifted Monster Hunter 3 from being a PS3 exclusive to being a Wii exclusive, it's just that some developers (and posters like you) didn't get the memo; or just chose ignore it.

I might agree with him. Wii hardware is not pushing game development at all . Wii games only push creativity on how to use the Wii controls. This is sad :(

I'm going to be at GDC next month and I'm going to try to figure out what is the general Wii-feel from developers but right now I believe this guy is right. These "casual" Wii games are pretty low quality and they are eating sales from the high quality games. This will eventually hurt the whole industry.
