Forums - Sony Discussion - The heck, PS3 DMC4 requires 25 min hard drive installation?!

Yes, it is kind of funny that Blu-Ray brags about extra space but you can't avoid issues like this. Oh well.

People who don't understand technology should not discuss it. It brings out your ignorance. Data accessing from a HDD is exponentially faster than from a disc. This has nothing to do with storage space. They simply can reduce load times to nearly zero by adding key pieces of data to the HDD. Now, this isn't very friendly to 20GB PS3 owners anyway, but who are we kidding? Sony never actually made any 20GB PS3s in the first place.  The 20GB PS3 is a myth.

Oh I know plenty about it Nazna, I just felt like pointing out the irony of a format that was suppossed to streamline everything. No harm intended.

So you knowingly made a false statement to get a hostile reaction from other posters?

wtf, 25 minutes to install a PS3 GAME?

And the graphics are better looking on 360 too?

I think ill just stick with my 360 for DMC. Lol

True Blu-ray has extra space but I think most here agree the majority of the games doesn't need this extra space. Uncharted used Blu-ray space to put in extras like the "making of the game" clips. With Blu-ray you could develop a game that uses actual movie clips for example.

As far as Installing DMC4 as of right now I have 21 GB of hardrive space with nothing to do. Most of the space used are demos I haven't touched in a while. So here I got a 40 GB HDD which is nothing to do but to be used as a memory card. I can install DMC4 and leave it on my HDD for a long long long long long time. Finally the PS3 HDD has a real benefit than a memory card or demos.

Maybe the PS3 version should be called "Gamers May Cry 4" ...nothing.

1UP seems to think the difference is barely noticable.

The PS3 has not-that-noticeably shorter load times between screens, but that's like 2 seconds versus the Xbox 360's 3 second loads. Seriously, count out 3 seconds. The PS3, however, forces you to install the game on your harddrive, a not insignificant process. I don't know why you're made to do this.

But as we all know, 1UP is also known as the Microsoft Defense Force.

Well, if they're wrong about that, it would be ridiculous, after all it's a pretty objective statement.

No it wasn't false. It was a statement pointing out how newer formats can't offer benefits without set backs. Unfortunately this is not the same leap of convenience we saw from VHS to DVD. You may be able to rationalize these set backs but let's hope the average consumer agrees with you on the market.

Needless to say its less trouble to play the 360 version which is for the most part identicle from what anyone can tell. Try and split hairs if people must but if you expect people not to care about loading a game onto your harddrive first, why would you expect them to care about unoticeable differences between the two versions?
