Okay, Gran Turismo 6's confirmation has driven me to make this thread

1st and foremost PLEASE GOD LET GT6 BE FOR PS4!!!

Now it is quite obvious that Sony is known for releasing their Playstation platforms IN competition. What do i mean by this you ask? well the 5th generation was already being lead by the Sega Saturn before the PlayStation was brought to the market. The 6th Generation was already being lead by the Sega Dreamcast before the PlayStation 2 was brought to the market and the 7th Generation(present) was already being lead by the Xbox 360 before the PlayStation 3 was brought to the market. PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita included.

MS isn't Sega. Even now Sony is clawing to get PS3 out of last place 6 years into this gen. As for launching after Nintendo in the handheld sector......well that wasn't a smart thing to do either, seeing DS and PSP lifetime sales.

Now being that the successor to Nintendo's Nintendo Wii(Wii U) is well on it's way and is undoubtedly going to begin the 8th Generation of gaming next year in 2012, i am almost 100% positive that Sony is going to bring PlayStation 4 to the market right behind the Wii U in 2013 like  now with Gran Turismo 6's confirmation i can see them aiming for a release within the 1st year of PlayStation 4's release have seen in previous Generations. I also see Microsoft releasing the next Xbox in 2013.  Yea that's right, i said it! I think the PlayStation 4 will release in the same year as the next Xbox NOT after it like some people think. I dont see Sony releasing the PlayStation 4 2 whole years after the Generation starts. *lifts shoulders*

You heard the rumors of MS ramping up plans to release sooner?

let's take a look at some well known games Sony was able to release within PlayStation 2's 1st year shall we? :)

Tekken Tag 10/18/2000

Ridge Racer V 10/18/2000

Twisted Metal Black 6/19/01

Gran Turismo 3 7/20/01 <-- MAJOR BLOCKBUSTER

Silent Hill 2 9/25/01

Grand Theft Auto 3 10/22/01 <-- MAJOR BLOCKBUSTER

^^^ PS2 had MANY MORE good games released in it's 1st year that i do not feel the need to include at the moment

now if GT6 was to be released in ps4's 1st year like GT3 was in ps2's 1st year then that would be a hell of a start for PlayStation 4 in the 8th generation

PS4 will be more powerful then PS3. That alone will mean a longer development time for GT6.

I honestly believe that PolyphonyDigital decided not to release GT5 sooner on PS3 because of that high A** price($600). That price kept A LOT of people away from the ps3 and it also gave PS3 the image that games wouldn't sell on the system.

Thats pure BS and everybody knows it. GT5 simply had a long development time due to PD learning the ins and outs of the console coupled with them being perfectionists on the cars....even if that meant neglecting other parts of the game.

When PSVita's price was announced i was kind of blown away by Sony matching Nintendo's 3DS price at the time. I expect to see something similar with the PlayStation 4 aswell. I dont see Sony making any Dumb decision's this time around with PS4 judging by the way they are handling the PSVita.

They allready made 2 dumb moves with the Vita.....they not only released after the 3DS but missed a NA/Europe holiday launch. That will put the Vita severely behind the 3DS in 2012 install base which will lead to developers shifting focus to 3ds.

on the pricing side, i see all 3 home console's being the same this time around. let's say Wii U launches at $399, i see Microsoft matching the price with the next Xbox being $399 and with the way Sony has been lately i see them matching Wii U's price with PS4 being $399. Of course when PS4 announces the $399 price most likely Nintendo and Microsoft will drop their price's down to either $299 or $350 IMMEDIATELY lol

so i see the price's being close from the start this time around. Sony already said that they wont be making as big of an investment with PS4 as they did with PS3 so i can see them being competitive with their pricing next gen.

A lot of people sided with PS3 because it was most powerful. IF the PS4 isnt the most powerful graphically of the gen as Sony may have hinted.....I wonder how the core PS3 graphics fans of today will react?

i am sort of looking forward to next gen now since GT6 has been confirmed to be in development ..just a little bit though..

GT6 is in developement as much as we know Forza 5 is in developement. The real question is...........how long is it gonna take?

thoughts?

Sorry if I seem too confrontational, merely playing devil advocate.

But in all serious how well Sony does next gen depends solely on MS and when they release their console. Because MS aint Sega and just like this gen, they won't make overtaking them easy and will cost Sony a lot of potential marketshare and developer support in the process.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

"PS4 will be more powerful then PS3. That alone will mean a longer development time for GT6. "

Uhh, no.

yep i also say PS4 will come out 2014...not any sooner...and Wii-U is not the typical "next generation" console...its just like the PS3 & X360...the new Xbox will show what power the new generation will bring graphical & technical wise...alsp PS3 is now making money and does better than before and it will do even better next year and the year after that...Sony just would be stupid to rush with the PS4...

who said that they had to rush? Sony usually starts gearing up for their next console when a competitor bring's on the new Generation

Nintendo showed a bit of Wii U this year so if sony started ps4 production this year why would a finished product 2 years later be considered as rushed?

and how do you know for sure that microsoft will be the 1 that shows what power the next gen will bring? what if sony just so happens to be the most powerful if they release in 2013?

microsoft's launching 1st this gen means nothing! ps2 launched 1st(excluding dreamcast) last gen then microsft and nintendo followed AFTER but microsoft still launched it's next gen console before the others even though it didnt the previous gen

and even when ps4 arrives ps3 will continue to sell and profit, did you forget that the PlayStation brand itself has legs?

i think you forgot one big point...you cant compare gens with gens!and also i dont said that cause the PS3 launched after the Xbox360 it  would be stupid if PS4 releases before the new Xbox ...the thing is just that it would be nonsense for Sony to release beore the new Xbox console (that will definatly launch in 2013) just cause the PS3 still got so much time in it...it would be stupid to release before the Xbox just to be 1st when the Ps3 is not even over and started to make money...there is enough place for some more price cuts what isnt the case with xbox...the PS3 just got more room to play than the Xbox360...

Microsoft launched first this gen just cause the first Xbox was fukkin crap and was destroyed by the PS2 so they wanted to be the first next gen to get a little advantage i guess and Sony dont need that in they current PS3 situation with making money now and a bright future for it...the first Xbox was dead even before it was alive so Microsoft said "man lets go out soon as possible from this gen and lets do it better next" which just isnt the case with Sony...like i said you cant compare gens with gens...they are just other backgrounds for every company/console every time!

and lol @ excluding Dreamcast in the 6th gen...its like i would say Wii launched first this gen excluding Xbox360...

Then you have the fact that while Nintendo is trying to get more than one controller to work per console, it is not set in stone they will be able to pull it off.  If that is the case, then that will make multiplayer less appealing, something that helped make the Wii popular.

Apparently, you missed that article stating that they can run at least 2 controllers now.  Mutliplayer will be a little less appealing if they can only have 2 but I highly doubt many will choose not to buy it if it can only support 2 tablet controllers.  I rarely have 3-4 friends over at my apt at the same time these days.  It is usually just 1 or 2 at most.  My high school and college days are over...

Itll lose out big time to the Xbox. Look how much Xbox has grown this gen, its sales have already doubled over the last console whereas PS3 is a third of the PS2, its dominated the PS3 in US easily and not just hardware its won out in software aswell, both in exlclusives and multiplatform.

It even leads in UK, i didnt know anyone who had an Xbox here and everyone had a PS2, look how fast that changed.

Next gen the gap between Xbox and PS3 will grow wider, nobodys that bothered with Japanese games anymore its all shooters, PS3 did well because of those that were loyal to the PS brand and people who expected things like GTA and FF to only come to PS3, but i barely kept anything.

Xbox will own PS4 in US and UK, the rest of Europe will turn over to Xbox like UK and with Japan turning towards portable consoles instead, PS4 wont stand a chance.

i dont think so!

you are giving xbox too much credit

it does not matter how much the xbox has "grown" this gen the funny thing is that when ps3 takes the 360 it will be in 3rd place

do you understand what im telling you joker? when 360 hits 3rd place it will mean that it will end even WORSE than it did last generation despite all of it's "growth"

PS2 launched 1st last gen(excluding dreamcast) and completely DESTROYED it's competition(aka Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's Gamecube). Though Xbox was able to beat the Gamecube

Xbox 360 launched 1st this gen and got hawked down by Nintendo's Wii and will be behind PlayStation 3 probably by the end of this holiday if Kinect doesn't come and save it's a** again like it did last year(unlikely)

so 360 got exclusive games from 3rd parties that originally were on playstation, they secured most of ps3's exclusive games and made them multiplat, they made deals that got many games to release a year earlier on it's console and the same with xbl games coming out 1st before psn and virtually every game ran alot better on the 360 over ps3 and it is STILL about to end worse than it did last generation

not to mention Sony was holding themselve's back with dumb decision's that i dont even have to name(inferior online, high a** price, making ps3 too hard to develop for etc etc)

and most of the 360 exclusive's went multiplatform(kinda like ps3 but 360 cant afford to have the games go multiplat)

cliffy b was basically saying that the next gears would also appear on a playstation(it was here on vgchartz when epic's other game came out on the same day as killzone 3), valve has basically gone multiplatform now so left 4 dead will most likely be playstation bound as well, mass effect has went to playstation, hell Halo wont even be made by the same developer anymore *lifts shoulders*

and Sony has finally started being more competitive as of recently so i mean what can microsoft possibly do next gen? xbox mainly got this far because of Sony's incompetence near the beginning of the generation

but let me stop right here because i think i typed a little too much on this 1 comment :)

Thats putting a bit of a negative spin on it isnt it, even if Xbox is third itll have sold upwards of 60 million consoles. Itll still be far ahead of PS3's software sales anyway. Its the growth its had thats impressive, how it stole a huge share away from Playstation so fast. Its not like Playstation isnt gonna finish in a worst place than last gen either.

PS3 was successful because there were many people who decided to wait for it, everyone had a PS1 and PS2 so people were naturally gonna pick that over Xbox. It helped that the original Xbox was more of an American thing so PS3 was able to catch up mainly due to Europe. Then there was all the people who waited for PS3 because thats what Tekken, GTA, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil etc would come out on and now theyre all on Xbox aswell.

If people knew from the start how it was gonna end up, everyone would have just got the Xbox instead, it was pretty much the same thing for half the price.

all i'll say is that if sony can keep the price down they'll be competitive... imo that was their major issue this gen

It'll be somewhat like the Vita's impending launch. They'll launch it at an affordable price, they won't make the mistake of pricing it as high as the Ps3 was. They'll make sure they have a strong launch line-up of games. If they could get two strong first party IPs out for launch, it'd set them up very nicely, Uncharted 4 & Gran Turismo 6 would be perfect. Ps3 struggled at the start, mainly because of the price, but also because it didn't have that 'must-have' game. If they can get either Uncharted 4 or GT6 out for launch they won't have this problem. Uncharted 4 would be my choice, solely because it's a critically acclaimed & commercially successful franchise that's has a growing following with each installment. Note, that I think Naughty Dog should develop this, no-one else. I have a funny feeling that next gen will be the end of Naughty Dog's traditional 'work on a different franchise with each new console generation'.

I also think that they should launch this simultaneously across the three main regions, Japan, America and Europe. None of this 'Japan gets it so many months before America does, and America gets it so many more months before Europe, shit'. I'd launch it simultaneously across, Japan, America & Europe at the start of November, so they can capitalize on the holiday season.

lol i would prefer GT6 to be out in ps4's launch year because Gran Turismo is the original beast >=)

and i got a feeling that Naughty Dog might work on Uncharted ps4 aswell but i hope they make it a 2 game limit. i hope they dont make 3 uncharted's for ps4

i feel the same way about ratchet and clank. insomniac should have just made 2 Ratchet and Clank games for ps3 because we already got 3 the previous generation

i hope that somehow someway Activision loses faith in Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragoon and just sell's them back to Sony because they aren't doing anything with them and sony could really use those franchises back. not to mention the fact that i miss the hell out of those games ESPECIALLY spyro!

then Naughty Dog can make uncharted 4, a crash or Jak game THEN make another Uncharted later on

I wouldn't mind Naughty Dog making Uncharted 4 on the PS4 and then moving onto something new. Yeah, I feel that Ratchet & Clank needs a serious rest. They've just been too many Ratchet & Clank games, 2 on the PSP & 4 on the PS3. Tools Of Destruction was my first Ractchet game, and that was what made me a fan, but I think they've just pumped out too many.

To be honest, I don't think Activision gives a rats ass about Crash Bandicoot. It's almost been 4yrs since the last installment, the series went down hill once Naughty Dog stopped making them. I just hope the same thing doesn't happen with Uncharted when Naughty Dog eventually stop making it. But, yes, I totally agree with you on SONY trying to get the rights to Crash back, whether it'll ever happen or not remains to be seen, but it'd be great if someone brought Crash Bandicoot back to his former glory.

All the articles I have read only stated that an anonymous source stated Nintendo was hard at work to try and get 2 controllers working on one Wii U.  There has been no comfirmation from Nintendo, or 3rd party developers, that they have been able to do this.  If you wish, you can show me the article that proves they have done it.

What will happen to the PS4 next gen? Well it will be the best selling console ever made and it will sell around 200 million. It will also have the best graphics of that generation along with the most exclusive titles.
