Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Developers that Microsoft needs to buy.

No, I hope MS never buys developers again.

With that said: R.I.P. Ensemble Studios.

If they bought Rockstar, Bungie and IW they'd dominate Sony.

Of course out of those three the only feasible one to buy is Bungie.

Microsoft need to buy Sega to have Jet Set Radio exclusive to its platform. I had that game and then sold it with the original Xbox. All these years later and now I miss that game.

Mistwalker would not happen. MS tried to break into Japan with third party moneyhatting and it didn't work. Buying a studio is a much more long term thing than moneyhatting a few games, and thus carries more risk if it fails.

Infinity ward would be a terrible decision. They have never made a game besides Call of Duty. They would have to be be bought for a lot of money, bring the rights to 0 IPs with them, and they are far from the best developers that MS could buy.

Nintendo. Or just give Nintendo RAre back.

I would agree with you if Rare didn't suck now.

We all know about Microsoft's lack of first party studios. They have opened a few lately to make up for it, but I think that they should buy a few more to increase their first party power. With that being said, here is a list of first party studios that Microsoft should buy.

1. Mistwalker

Why? Alright we all know who Mistwalker is, and we all know how the Xbox brand means absolutely nothing in Japan. Buying Mistwalker would partially solve this problem. They could make JRPGs and give the Xbox brand some meaning in Japan, and give their first party lineup some diversity. They are already funded by Microsoft, so why not?

2. Bungie

Why? I hate the idea of Bungie working under Activision. Their titles will get milked to death, and there is nothing that Microsoft can do about it, except maybe buy them back. If Bungie returns, Microsoft will have a proven Halo studio, instead of the unproven 343 Industries

3. Ninja Theory

Why? Just another developer to make Microsoft's first party offerings more diverse.

4. Epic Games

Why? Cliff Blezinski is an Xbox fanboy, Epic can make some pretty good games, and Microsoft would finally own the full rights to Gears of War. They can make several games at once, and would make a great addition to Microsoft's line of studios. On top of all that, they can make hardcore Xbox games.

5. Crytek UK

Why? I think you all know why I named them. Most of the staff here used to work at Rare. They could revive Perfect Dark, and make that long-awaited Conker sequel.

Others:

Remedy Entertainment

Infinity Ward (if MW3 doesn't do well)

Radical Entertainment

Twisted Pixel

Mistwalker - Investing in JRPG is pointless. MS learn that the hard way. Low chances.

Bungie - MS acquired Bungie in 2000 and in 2007 allow them to leave. There is no point to buy them back. On April 29, 2010, Bungie announced that it was entering into a 10-year publishing agreement with Activision Blizzard, so there is zero logic for them to go back to MS. Very low chances.

Ninja Theory - They are making Devil May Cry and if the game is successful Capcom will keep them for the next one. Low chances.

Epic Games - MS will love to buy them, if they were making only games, but they are not. Very low chances.

Crytek UK - If they wanted ex-Free Radicals why they didn't bought them when they were chip? Very low chances.

MS will not buy big studio any time soon IMO. They bought a lot of studios last generation and the result was poor, with Bungie as the only success. They now prefer to build them. Only in 2011 they open 3 new studios
In May 2011, MGS opened a Vancouver-based studio MGS Vancouver.
In May 2011, MGS opened a London based studio MGS Soho.
In May 2011, MGS opened a Redmond based studio MGS Family.

MIcrosoft considered making Crytek a first party in the past , because of Ryse i think that acqustion decision could come back in disscussions ,

and Bungie was not the only success , They have Lionhead and Turn 10

Turn 10 was build from the ground from MS. It was established in 2001 by Microsoft Game Studios to develop the Forza Motorsport series.

Lionhead is a medium success. In April 2006 Lionhead Studios was acquired by Microsoft. Fable II and Fable III were successful, but all other of their projects fail so far. What happen with Milo and all other prototypes? If you don't know Little Big Planet start in Lionhead studio and the idea was sacked, the result was that Lionhead lost talented developers and Sony got great excluseve.

Honestly I don't see MS really buying anyone.

They've pretty much made it apparent that they aren't going to invest all that much in 1st party resources in terms of developers outside of a few big 1st party franchises and Kinect stuff.

which is very sad

??

MS just opened 3 new studios.

MS Vancouver
MS Family
MS Soho

are brand new studios. With BigPark, Good Science Lab, 343 industries and the guys behind the 1vs100 show, I think MS did invest a lot of resources in their 1st party studios. 7 new studios in 3 years is not bad IMO.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Its the IPs you want not Studios per-say , its already been said studios are made up of people and they can and do jump ship . what you want to get is a new IP that succeeds over time despite studio changes and frankly that is a gamble .
