Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: "NGP dev budgets close to PSP"

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I just don't know what to say anymore.

- NGP is so perfect for developers (they say so, the budget says so, the easy to use development tools prove so)

-Has combined the best features of every handheld to date (touch screen, gyroscope, back touch screen, microphone etc)

- Has comparable graphics to PS3 on its LAUNCH games

- Is said to be competitively priced.

All of the above mean more GAMES for gamers and good quality games from launch itself.....imagine the quality 4-5 years from now.

This deserves a congratulations from he must always be named.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

That's definitely a good sign, and certainly says something about how easy Sony have made NGP development.

The more games the better

Good stuff, people have been speculating that the development costs would be similar to the costs of the HD consoles, but as I originally thought (I also apply this the HD consoles) that ease of use, good resource management and talented developers can always make high quality games for a lower development price. The Witcher 2 and Metro 2033 are perfect examples, they cost around 6 million each to develop and they are both high quality games and are arguably two of the best looking games across every platform.

If this stays consistent and games like Uncharted and Wipeout can be made for like 500k, it could only mean good things for the future of the NGP and the amount of support is gets, especially from the smaller developers in Japan and the Western Indie scene (like what we are seeing with Queasy Games).

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I think this guy (Michael Denny) is lying or at least exagerating. I mean come on you all saw Uncharted: Golden Abyss graphics, they are crazy for a portable.

But if the platform allows you to easily create those graphics, they don't have to be expensive. If you really want to squeeze the PS3 for example, you have to spend a lot of time and effort in doing so, which can make development costly. But not so here!

the big worry though is the recent comment saying

"its can't make call, so its not a phone"

AND

"it can't fit in your pocket"

if it was a phone then you are guaranteed to have people carry it 100% with them at all times, but it is not.  now that isn't a game breaker, handhelds have been around forever and they could never call, BUT they could fit in your pocket.  so now why are you bringing it out with you?  not as a phone, and to bring it you NEED to have a bag of some sort to put it in and carry.  I might have to look again better but I dont' seem to recal guys carrying around bags too often.

so its essentially a SMALLER tablet used basically 100% for gaming.  I feel most people will just play this thing at home, and thus gets into the whole, why not just play my ps3/360/wii/pc instead?

Well Western devs were hardly spending anything for making games on PSP..

Sony actually addressed that a bit here: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=129515
