Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo 3DS: did it launch too early ?

so, due the lack of good launch games and a low battery life, maybe the 3DS could have used some more time in the oven.

if they've waited a little longer Ocerina of time 3d could've been a launch title.

what do you think ?

Did the 3DS launch too early ?

Err not really it has a few good titles, Pilotwings resort ( i'm having a good time with it), ridge  racer 3D, street figher, ghost recon, and one or 2 more, and the battery life doesn't bother me I rarley play handhelds on the move.

No game developer had over a year to develop for it so it has to do with the them simply not wanting to be the first one out and taking a loss. I believe Nintendo purposely left their launch barren to give the Third party developers more room to sell their games a mistake on their part as third party did nothing good with the time they had.

battery life was more for cost reduction if anything else as nyko has made a larger battery pretty quickly.

i feel it is, should have at least launch with a mario series game i believe will sell much much more better...

No.

@Tenhski- Is it being the most successful launch of all time not good enough for you then? Sell it to early adopters who buy the tech, let 3rd parties get a stranglehold so they'll want to develop for your system, then release your awesome games for the 'Nintendo hardcore'

That way, you have the best of both worlds!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Lol @ people claiming the system's launch lineup is weak.

Those people really ought to take a look at most other gaming systems' launch lineups.

Besides, the 3DS seems to be so popular that launching killer titles right away wouldn't have increased sales much anyway. Better to save those for later on.

Gotta find as many excuses as possible. Logic and facts don't count.

Nope they need to maximise userbase before NGP is out.  And the more they sell early the better as NGP might force them to drop the price.

The only bad thing that it seems they couldn't fix at launch is the mediocre (compared to the DS, at least) battery life. Portable batteries, here we go...

That's the only reason that I'd say it was launched too early. But Nintendo should remedy that sometime. Personally, I don't mind the price, but it'd be great for potential buyers if Nintendo would be able to drop it down to $199.99 or $189.99 within a year's time. $249.99 is a lot to swallow for some people, especially considering the fact that the Wii is less expensive and includes extras.

No. The terrible launch line-up was intentional - they needed to get third party support and, if they'd released good games early on, nobody would've been forced to buy the terrible third party games.

The low battery life is, indeed, a problem, especially since Nintendo wants you to keep your 3DS in sleep mode and carry it everywhere, but that's something that would take too long to fix and, by that time, WiiDS declines would hurt.
