Forums - General Discussion - Massive Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

Man this sucks for Japan, but I know they are the most capable country in these terms so I trust their ability.

I live in Chile, an Im 20, so the 8.8 quake last year was my first big quake(before that I had only seen "small" 7.0 quakes), I know the sensation is horrible but like I sai before I trust Japanese people.

Im sure Japanese people are way better prepared than we were  last year an the few preparation an all of the knowlege we have is thanks to them. I feel solidarity with them considering our people have to learn to suffer these type of events.

Now, on the quake and tsunami, the bad thing is that you dont have high ground so the sea has little opposition when coming out, for us here you can get to high ground just a few meters from the beach, but most of the islands dont have high ground at all, so I hope those places arent hit by the wave or at at least well prepared to deal with this.

So I hope not many people died and I hope you can get up in little time, I know you will, Chile last year was a disaster, but I see people in japan are way more mature than we are, hell, we didnt have tv, electricity and water in most of the affected areas for a few days or weeks depending on the area, but I see Japanese people calmed and I see services arent as bad as they could be.

Be strong.

Well, shit son! That looks trully horrific, hopefully majority if not all of people got evacuated in time, because that looks pretty serious.

Earthquakes like this are definitely not common...

I live further South as well, but I could still feel the shaking. Nothing else really happened in my area though.

Things look crazy up north though from what I've been checking out on the news.

I always love Japan even though I've never been there. I hope this doesn't get any worse, my thoughts and prayers are with Japan and any other countries effected by this travesty.

Is this something really that uncommon in Japan?

When buildings are floating off into the distance and half a city bursts into flames, I'd like to think that's pretty uncommon.

You're right. From what I understand this was the biggest one Japan's ever experienced.

Heart and prayers with them.. things look bad.

This is horrible. I hate waking up to this kind of news. Let's hope this doesn't end up as bad as Indonesia in 2005.

Yeah apparently they've shut them down before things got out of hand. Would hate another Chernobyl or sort of thing.
