Well, you've already named some. Here's some more:

  • Chrono Trigger
  • Dragon Quest (most the series)
  • FF12,10, 6, 4, 3
  • Xenogears, Xenoblade
  • Tales of Symphonia

That's probably most of them. Like you say, it does a great job, but in the era of the PS2, there were just many better RPG's, sadly, many I didn't get a chance to play. FF7 sits right in the middle. Some are better, some are worse. But there's no denying it's a good game, but it isn't the 'best' like so many seem to claim...

Xenogears, most of DQ and ToS better than FF VII? FF IV/III/XII better? WHAT?

Look, FF VII is overrated, but it's still better than any of those.

Also, Chrono Trigger is superior to 99.9% of RPG's anyway, it's not a fair fight at all.

A difference in opinion, as I think Dragon Quest, FFVII, FFVI, and ToS are all better than the overrated Chrono Trigger. Chrono Triiger just an inferior Dragon Quest knock-off. It's easily the most overrated JRPG of all time.

You couldn't have said it better.

Final Fantasy VII. OoT was an ok game but nothing that I find amazing like a lot of people.

I played and finished it 2 years ago, and it wasn't all that amazing even then. Still, better than the games I pointed out. Xenogears, for one, is an absolute travesty and abomination as far as gameplay goes. They just fucked it up. I'm not really defending FF VII, but it's still better than Xenogears and any DQ. And easily better than FF IV, there's no element in that game that is better done than FF VII. FF XII is very debateable, since that game does a lot of things extremely well. So does ToS.

It's close, as they're both the 2nd best titles in there respective series' released that gen.

I would give it to Final Fantasy VII though, because I'm bored of OoT being the undeserving winner of all these competitions.

Yeah, I suppose. But as Carl said, neither of them are the best in the gen, so...

FF7 eats OOT for breakfast, without salt. (but I hate salt in my food anyway...well beyond the amount already put in...blame Xen for this)

So FF7.

But like Mr T-tar said. Wind Waker and FF6 are better in the respective franchises!

OoT in my opinion has aged extreamly well. It is one of the few games from that gen i can still sit down and play from begining to end.

FF7 was good for its time but not so much now. Hence the reason why everyone wants a remake for it.

 

OoT wins this one for me.

A better face-off would have been between

Legend of Zeldz: OoT
