Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Analyst believes Wii capable of selling 3.6 million consoles a month

Whoa Avinash, clearly you let your personal feelings towards the Wii affect your common sense. I highly doubt that the Wii could sell that much per month, for more than maybe 3-4 months MAX, because after that the extremely high demand would be quenched. It just doesn't seem feasible, and unless you can prove us wrong, since all this is based only on opinion, and analysts tend to be the worst at what they do, this proves nothing. Just another What If? The only time I haven't been able to walk into a store and buy a Wii is this past month and a half, and I live in California. The Wii hasn't been completely selling out all year, but it has been coming very close. Not Wii bashing, so don't jump on me and assume I think it is a fad and what not because my opinion differs from yours, OK?!?1 I plan on getting a Wii next year when it has a few more games I am interested in.

Don't forget, there's untapped markets out there...like China... Maybe it could sustain a higher rate. But if I were Nintendo, I'd try to keep it around the level of the DS unless it was still selling out. They seem to have figured out the demand for the DS.

Well remember the Wii is selling faster than the DS did its first year and Wii fit keeps selling out in Japan So Wii probably has a lot more room for growth in its sales, maybe even more than DS

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

With chinese market: pretty sure.
Without: don't think so.

But will sell millions anyway.

Yeah, so in your part of california it doesn't sellout and you assume thatdemand is quenched, let me let you in on a little secret, they can't teleport Wii's my friend, just because your store has Wii's doesn't mean that demand everywhere is quenched, it would be great if Wii supply could be shifted via teleporter, but it doesn't work that way, and a person in NY isn't going to fly out to your town to buy a Wii, your sotre having Wii's while others are sold out is a mistake on the part of the retailer, underestimating demand in one store and overestimating in another, it has no bearing on demand being quenched at any one moment.

I'm certain if you went to every store in this country you would find Wiis in some areas, but that doesn't matter if people are in other areas who want it but its not in supply there

Oh well, given that Nintendo is unable to manufacture 3 + million Wiis a month,I see no point in discussing whether or not they could sell that many in a single month.

If Nintendo had been selling 3.6 million a month then i doubt there would still be the demand next year to sustain it, anyways the wii is a good console but only the DS deserves sales like that, anyways this thread has gone bat shit insane so i'm going to get some sexual healing to soothe the pain

DS = Dual Screened Miracle

Games Playing-

Mario Slam BasketBall

Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time

Legend of Zelda: Phantom HourGlass

So your argument can be summed up to you think Wii is a fad and don't like it so it can't sell that much, am I right?

What he is trying to say is that if you make to many Wii's there will be less Demand and too muh supply. Which is good and bad.

Increased Supply doesn't shift demand, all it can do is possibly satiate demand at a certain price point, yet that is assuming that demand is low enough to be satiated by the increased supply

JouninGarret has the right idea, this thread is slightly redundant. Rockdustf40 has also been able to explain me quite clearly, it seems he was able to understand me quite well. Avinash, if you want to discuss this further then thats why god invented msn, in the meantime stop trying to block a discussion with biased opinion that all 6.6 billion people on the planet want a wii. don't overreact either, i hope to purchase a wii next year and wish it the best of luck but you have to be sensible.

Why would 6.6 billion people have to buy a Wii?  PS2 only sold 113 million in its lifetime (only a little over 7 million in the time Wii has been out), Ipod took three years to reach 10 million then sold 109 million plus in three more years, Wii has reached around 17 million in little over a year with massive supply constraints, if you think Wii demand is that easy to satiate then you need to be sensible

Also if Nintendo started to pump 3.6 million wii's into the system it would not go unnoticed by sony and microsoft, i'm pretty sure they would react in someway, £100-£200 price cuts, throw money at third parties for big name exclusives, huge halo 3-esque advertising campaigns etc etc
