Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why did Gamecube get served???

Mario Kart Wii really destroys Double Dash from all angles.  Way more courses, racers, great online play, goddamn bikes... I mean, I can understand preferring Melee to Brawl, but Double Dash?  Boggles the mind...

And The Wind Waker is shitty because it was rushed.  If it were polished to near perfection (like Twilight Princess was), with those two extra dungeons, no triforce quest filler and some non-shitty sailing implementation, then it'd probably be one of my favorites.  As is it's too easy, too short and yet still too tedious... all it really has going for it is looks.  Pretty easily the worst of the 3D Zeldas.

The sudden love shown here for Double Dash would be an example of the retroactive love that I was talking about. It wasn't that loved at the time, in fact I remember getting involved in various 'worst Mario Kart' discussions because of it.

I cant see how people think Wii has better 3rd party support than GC??? It has MORE no denying that, but better??? Wii gets shovelware after shovelware. Barely any core 3rd party exclusives and most of the multiplats are vastly inferior to the HD counterparts. At least with GC it had the benefit of not being the weakest on the market so it never got gimped multiplat games

Meh.  GC routinely got inferior ports, thanks to it being lowest on the totem pole in terms of market and memory.  The only times GC got great multiplatform games was when it was the/a lead version (ie: Sooulcalibur 2, Viewtiful Joe 2, etc).  And even then, GC got left out of ports way more often than it should have (Burnout 3 and on, Capcom fighters, etc).

Wii also has way, way more 3rd party core exclusives than GC ever did.  I actually can't think of much notable for GC (PN03? Gotcha Force?  uh....), while I can name tons of great Wii exclusives (Trauma Team, Monster Hunter Tri, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, Goldeneye, A Boy and his Blob, Sonic Colors, Little King's Story, Muramasa, NMH2, Kororinpa, etc, etc).

Gamecube was aimed at children.

 >_>...

Resident Evil, killer7, and Eternal Darkness would like to say hi.

I will throw in Metroid Prime and Twilight Princess as well.

@milkyjoe  speak for yourself I loved Double Dash the first time i played it. It was one of the few GC games that had my PS2 collecting dust for a bit. I just found the Wii version to be too damn easy. Doesnt matter how much tracks it has or online. If I find the gameplay was a bit dumbed down, killed the whole experience for me

@jarrod  what were these inferior ports GC got. since it was more powerful than the PS2 at the very least some of the games would be identical. and BTW gamecube did have a Capcom fighter. one of the best IMO Capcom VS. SNK 2, too bad the controller sucked so bad

I blame these.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

I was very happy with my GC, especially with RE4, Eternal Darkness, SSBM (which I played for hundreds of hours with friends)

- For local multiplayer, the GC was a beast. 4 player Mario Kart DD, SSBM or Timesplitters 2 was a blast.

- A lots of forgotten gems saw the light on GC : Ikaruga (a dreamcast port), PN03, Baten Kaitos...

- The GC saw the renewal of Resident evil, with REmake ( the best RE imho), and the very nice looking RE0 (leech mode !), RE:CV was available also, and of course the time exclusivity of RE4

- Line up with Rogue Squadron 2 guaranteed hundreds of hours of hardcore shooting (Endurance). I didn't liked RS3's single player at first, but the missions of RS2 in co op was a blast ^^

- Kiddy console ? try Killer7 and Eternal Darkness

- The GC had the supreme Metroid and Metroid 2

- In the RPG scene, of course it couldn't compete with PS2 library... but we had the fresh Paper Mario, a hardcore Fire Emblem, and Tales of Symphonia.

- Last, but best and hardest racer ever : FZero GX. 4 player madness, hardcore difficulty, 30 tracks, customizable car.... Nuff said !

Oh, and everything @60fps, half the size and load compared to ps2/xbox, without the failures. I use to put my launch GC in my bag and took it on lots of train trips around europe, no problem, still working like a charm.

Damn,  that was a failure, but I had so much good time with my failure, me and my friends ^^.

Pretty much everything on GC was inferior to Xbox port wise.  And often it was less optimized than the PS2 ports they were usually based off of.  And if there was any online, forget it... I mean, nearly everything from Ubisoft or EA seemed to run worst on GC, with only a few exceptions (Rayman 3, BG&E, Nightfire... uh...).

CVS2 GC sold better than the Xbox port, and yet for whatever reason GC went on to miss out on stuff like MVC2, SFAC or CFE.  Made no sense imo.  Then again, Wii's missed out on SF4, which is another WTF move from Capcom. :/

@jarrod  Capcom has not support a Ninty system with fighting games since SNES, I dont know why people has expected that to change. N64 didnt even get a damn Capcom fighter. I was actually shocked that Cvs.S2 even went to GC. As for other fighters, the GC controller sucked for fighters thats that. I dont think its a WTF move, Capcom just really dont give Ninty consoles fighter support. Sucks for Wii only owners but I dont know why some are surprised no different than it was for the last few gens

As for Xbox i agree, but there are alot of ports that just ran better on GC. REs, the Spider-mans, Sonic Heroes, King Kong, etc.

I expected it to change on GC mainly because CVS2 sold pretty well on the system, much better than it did on Xbox actually... and yet Xbox got MVC2, SFAC and CFE while GC didn't.  I don't buy the controller excuse either, the OG Xbox was shit for fighters, and even the DualShock isn't great for them.  Hell, Dreamcast arguably got the best Capcom fighter support in it's day, and it's controller is probably the worst among the last gen consoles.  Going back the only main controllers that I'd say were honestly at all "good" for Capcom fighters are probably the SNES and Saturn pads (and the later 6 button Genesis/PCE pads, but those weren't standard), and those are all inferior to a mid-line stick anyway.  Capcom not continuing to support GC with fighters, and missing out on the cash-cow that would've been Wii SF4, are definitely huge WTF moves imo.
